Ableton Live noob question

Post by wall f » Fri Jan 15, 2010 2:11 pm

Hi - noob question.
I've followed the wobble bass tutorial here:
http://dubspot.squarespace.com/blog/200 ... -live.html

Now I have a sound in Ableton which I want to re-use in other songs. The manual says just drag the thing into your Library, so I grab the track header (there are no clips) and stick it in a folder. I've made sure the waves and stuff are collected and saved. Problem is that when the new .als is dragged into a new track, the Simpler instrument shows up but it doesn't respond to MIDI and it's waveform can't be previewed in the Library (looks blank, labelled N.N.).

Does this make sense?

I guess what I'm saying is: how do you save something like this to the Library? I'm using Ableton Live 8.0.9

The way i did it was to leave one of the three folder directories as default, it was the top one which was in the programs directory (program Files), and i dragged the CLIP onto the dir. and it saved it.

When i started a new song, i dragged that same clip out, and it made the track, loop options and all FX appear just like the other track had it. Pretty fucking handy if you ask me! The thing with ableton is, if you just do it instead of asking questions then you will figure it out, no matter how much you know.

Hope it helps.
