Help with Massive
Just got myself a copy of massive and trying to learn how to make my bass sound meaty and dark, going for a sound a bit like Reso's Beasts in the Basement on this track, but can't work this out as I'm still learning. Does anyone have any advice on how I can get a similar sound?
Re: Help with Massive
Try reading the fucking manual

Yeah, real helpfull mate! Perhaps if you spent more time reading the original post and less time trying to be a smart arse then you might of actually got the point of the post instead of wasting your and my time by writing something boderline abusive, and saving yourself from appearing like a tosser! If you can't answer the question don't bother posting anything!

Re: Help with Massive
is "meaty" an acceptable adjective to use when describing a sound?
Re: Help with Massive
Yeah, real helpfull mate! Perhaps if you spent more time reading some manuals and less time begging and whining and first posting on forums while being a smart arse then you might of actually got to the point of having a good massive patch instead of wasting your and my time by writing something fucking irrelevant and saving yourself from appearing like a fucking idiot! If you can't answer the question don't bother posting anything!Disto wrote:Yeah, real helpfull mate! Who the fuck do you think you are telling me what to and not to post.

Re: Help with Massive
Ha ha! Very amusing retort. Lucky for me that your opinion means next to jack shit to me as I'm sure it does to everyone else on this forum.
I wasn't telling you what you can and can't post, just stating that your post was neither helpfull or informative and as such was a complete waste of time. If you are that bored why don't you get a job / girlfriend/ education* (delete as appropriate), rather than picking arguments with random strangers over the internet? Your actions are that of the stereotypical bored teenager with nothing to do between wanks.
Anyway, as you clearly have no interest in anything to do with this post I will no longer be responding to any of your comments.

How come my post was not informative? Reading the fucking manual is not a bad plan.Disto wrote:Ha ha! Very amusing retort. Lucky for me that your opinion means next to jack shit to me as I'm sure it does to everyone else on this forum.

And if you really want answers to those questions, I'm a business investigator and I'm at work atm. My girlfriend is my wife. Education, I'm currently studying synthesis/sound design 4th year.
You started the whole damn argument, as I just told you to read the fucking manual. I'm very sorry for saying fucking, so I'll retry. "Why don't you try reading the manual?". If you can't handle a curseword or 2, go back to where you came from.
The NI Massive manual covers alot of techniques and is very in depth.
Oh and I quote, rules 1 and 2 of the production forum:
#1. DON'T BE A DUMBASS
#2. New to dubstep? Got a question about production? Welcome to the family. We're more than happy to help, but it's a 2-way street, so do your due diligence: USE THE SEARCH BUTTON and READ THE STICKIES before you ask.

Re: Help with Massive
kejk,
I'm in agreement that reading the manual is a brilliant idea, but it doesn't cover what I'm looking for, which as mentioned was a very specific sound. Much like you I've already completed my degree in audio engineering and have been working in the industry for over 10 years, so not a noob at this. I can appreciate that wires have probably been crossed here. Thanks for the advice, and apologies if anything was taken out of context, but it was fairly easy to jump to that conclusion. Best of luck with your course.

Re: Help with Massive
If you look back through this section you'll find a 'How do i make this sound?' thread, if you look through there you may find some good answers. This site also has a search bar which actually works well (unlike most forums!) so it's worth having a look around through there too. Massive patches have also been uploaded onto a thread, so these may be a good starting point for you to tweak.
Re: Help with Massive
Thanks marshy, just found that thread. Will check it out now.

Contradiction? How can you not know how to make that sound when you've been doing it ten years?
Don't bite my head off please Internet hardman.
Re: Help with Massive
Not an internet hardman, and not contradicting myself either. Not claiming I know everything, as far as I'm concerned everyday's a school day when it comes to music. Was just trying to get some tips on a synth I don't have much experince with yet.
Re: Help with Massive
Well if this is the case, I'm sorry if I have offended you so far, you seem like a nice/intelligent chap..Disto wrote:Not an internet hardman, and not contradicting myself either. It's just that, on these forums, we get "how do I make this sound" threads every day. So if I see someone with one post asking how to make a certain sound that has been discussed forever, it's kind of annoying.
Anyways, since you seem sincere, which bass do you mean anyways? There's quite alot of different basses in that tune if I recall correctly..

Re: Help with Massive
kejk,
Thanks for the reply, I can appreciate it's got to be quite annoying, I'm sure I'll feel the same in the next few weeks.
The sound I'm trying to "recreate" is the first two notes of the bar after the first drop (or any drop for that matter). It sounds to me like some sort of distorted / modulated reese. If you can throw some tips my way it would be appreciated.
Thanks
