Man it sucks I want to switch majors to music tech so badly now that I have discovered this shit but im already balls deep in my art degree... It would be such a fucking waste of time to start over now so I have to be a hobbyist and try to take as many music classes as I can

got a few mates on that course...apparently its not amazing, dont actually learn a lot about making tunes, more about making synths and shit

had one mate who dropped off it and went to Uni east london says the course is much better there

no kill joy

not meaning to seem like a twat, but as someone who did music tech at uni may i just chime in and say... dont bother. save your money, get a job and save up for some gear. you can learn all they teach you at uni by just buying a few books and searching on the net.

they will probably teach you a lot of stuff that you will find completely irrelevant to what you want to do, and for the most part you will be expected to go and do the majority of your learning for yourself anyway. the only real benefits to uni are you get to use the posh studios (only lasts till you leave, plus you have to compete with thousands of people to book them) and you can meet people into similar stuff to you/musicians, but then you can do that anyway by hanging about at your local record shop/dubstep night (or whatever)/rehearsal studio, or just meeting up with people off the web.

go to uni by all means, but do something that might help you towards your dreams, but can also be used in other areas (e.g. electronics, acoustics, computer programming, business, something like that).

Yeah but to be fair, if you go and do a course where you just make tunes for 3 years, where do you expect to be at the end of it? a big time producer? don't think so!

This course is hard, and yeah there is alot of focus on programming but you also learn good studio practice etc, and it's alot more realistic.

I dont intend on being a big shot producer by the end, ( all though this would be sweet  ) but you'll have a degree from a good course and good knowledge. Then you can go on to look into getting work in audio/media fields.

Im personally going to try and get into vocal dubbing :)

gets better in 3rd year trust. its a good course, some bullshit modules but at least it teaches you how to make ur own synths, program audio, and all the sciency things about audio processing you NEED to know if ur gonna be a good producer. Its all good doing a course in production but if u dont know how it all works ur not gonna be original!

p.s. bristol is amazing aswel
