what's your fail-safe?

Post by Mad_EP » Tue Feb 02, 2010 12:39 am

Don't know about you lot... but if I listen to too much electronic music (especially if only in one genre), I feel crusty... like I need to break out and reset myself.

Now obviously any classical or jazz recording will do that within seconds...

...but out of curiosity, what Pop/Rock/Rap bands help break you out of whatever derivative funk you might be in and reset yourself?

I know it is a hard question to narrow down, but for me I would probably say...
- Jane's Addiction
- Mr. Bungle
- Public Enemy

Almost anything I need to feel is usually well-covered by those 3...

Rob Dougans' Clubbed To Death. Hits the reset button nicely.

I don't think there is anything specific for me. I turn to 70s rock a lot tho. Maybe some Steely

Umm... Usually one of these bands;

Oceansize
Reuben
Sigur Ros
Biffy Clyro (the older stuff)

And then if I wanna chill then I'll probs whack on some Liquid D'nB, my mix of choice is normally Hospital Mix Vol. 5, the one mixed by London Elektricity... deep stuff :D

Beth Gibbon's "Out Of Season" (such a beautiful album plus all the loud hisses and production mistakes make it perfect!)

Other mentions..

The Cure - A Forest (single)
Babyshambles - Down in Albion (album)
Anything by Joy Division.

Lots of brit pop/indie and post-punk in general.

i guess like a lot of people here the overwhelming majority of the music that i listen to is electronic. if i need a break from that i listen to some hardcore punk, my bloody valentine, nirvana, or hip-hop as it's probably my favourite genre even though i don't listen to enough of it anymore.

btw isn't hip-hop electronic music?
