Setting up a Rave

Post by aesthetics » Mon Feb 08, 2010 11:11 am

What's good DSF production forum lurkers?
I want to get a rave togeher, and I have everything I need besides a Generator and Speakers.
I'm guessing (praying) someone here has set up a rave in the past, or sets them up on a regular basis,
and I was wondering what kind of speakers and how powerful of a generator I am looking for...

The thing is it's going to be in the forest, so I'm guessing I can't just use any speakers...
The amount of people that are going to be there is around 150...

I need specs. to look for, rental prices if anyone knows - and 230's of all the mediocre brostep produced in the last week.

Do you have amps, cables , cross over and decks/mixer? also a van to move everything?

Have you got permission or is it going to be illegal? So if you want to rent equipment illegal changes things and people may want to charge extra.
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

I have a big ass pick up truck, my DJ equipment is Laptop + Soundcard (NI Audio 2 DJ) + Controller (Reloop Digital Jockey V2) - I don't think I'll need many cables cause it's all built in pretty much, just need to connect speakers to channel A and Headphones to Channel B. I pretty much need to know what and how much it's going to cost me to set up sound-wise. I'm set up with DJ Equipment and moving stuff isn't a problem.

"Have you got permission or is it going to be illegal?" - Not really an issue in Israel :D Plus it's going to be really - really deep in the forest.
And lighting will be done courtesy of the stars and moon :)

It is the dopest place ever! There's this short trail through really thick forest, and all of a sudden it's just this flat open circular space surrounded by twisted trees. And the stars are so bright :o
People raving till' someone notices it's 2 in the afternoon the next day...

Hallucinogens and sharp branches are funny!

So, help anyone? Serox?

If its an illegal party then HIRE a soundsystem dont use one of your mates rigs. This is because the police will not confiscate a hired rig that does not belong to one of the party organisers/attendees.

CLEAR UP ANY SHIT YOU LEAVE BEHIND.

Have at least 1 first aider per 100 people. We used to get student nurses to come and give them little high viz waistcoats. The police always thought that was a nice touch.

A petrol generator AND backup generator are essential.

Be 100% prepared for some drunk crusty to spill shit all over the decks/laptop. It will happen and you will need to kick his ass.

A little stall selling bottled water/beer is a good idea. You can make some ££ back and put it towards the cost of the rig.

Dont advertise the party. Give fliers to your friends and ask them to pass onto their friends. That way you keep the wankers to a minimum.

Be prepared for things to kick off. If you dont have any security you will need to act as peace maker and/or ass kicker. I have been there a few times myself and usually you can diffuse the situation with chit chat.

How deep in the forest are we talking? If it's more than a mile, carrying all that equipment is gonna be a real pain, hope you don't have hills and such. If you can, use a dolly to haul your stuff with.

Hes got a truck  BTW, shout outs HBurgh, WTF goes on up there dude??? The guys do it right in Pitt, n me n my crew are movin in on the outlyings, but I never here that much bout HBurgh, gotta have kinda scene over there though, right, its a big place, innit?

Dude, renegade forest party sounds so sick though... no drugs needed for something that awesome. Thats what its about yo. Im always so tempted to renegade it out around here, hate the risk though.

So, I know it would be different from country to country, but in theory, if someone were to throw a renegade somewhere, not that anyone on this thread ever went into it n said they were going to, but since were on the theory of it all, what are the penalties of kickin a sound systemup in the woods when your not supposed to? Dont seem like that bad a crime to me as far as societies standards go, int my fault if the people listenin to our music are fucked up, WERE sober... Cant be more then fines or wrist slappin, huh? Then again, like I said, country to country I guess...

in the UK you can be looking at 5 years inside for organising the rave, along with the confiscation and destroying of all your soundsystem, records, etc. that's if you're not selling booze or drugs, didn't break into the warehouse, are not trespassing, haven't damaged anything, haven't caused a public nuisance to local residents and didn't steal the electricty....

...realistically this rarely happens. confiscation of eqiupment is fairly well known, but apart from that not many go to jail for it i don't think.

Well wait wait wait... if your not trespassing or breaking and entering how is this like... illegal? you guys got laws prohibiting Dubstep, or is it just a permit thing your talkin about? I dont see how having venue owner permission and not causing a nusiance and not hurting anytihng can get you arrested, unless like I said, its permits, taxes, or laws prohibiting all skanking out to bass music.

And im not talkin about warehosues, were talkin woods n deserts n natural areas, like state game land and forest reserve and shit, get it?

Criminal justice bill outlaws music defined by a repetitive beat from being played to more than 10 people in the open air ... I marched - I signed petitions ... They made it law ... What can you do ...

Really?
Technically most forests are owned by the councils so it is trespassing if they tell you to leave

Don't promote it too hard.. keep it WOM. Some of the most amazing outdoor parties on the West Coast have been happening here since the 90s and they are never posted online, fliers..etc. Have some big (sober) dudes that are honest around not so much as security, but just in case someone is wasted or whatever. CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELF. Even if all your friends bail or are too loaded in the morn to clean up, it's your party and it's up to you to clean all the shit up.. make sure you have someone that knows how to play a proper sunrise set. Have fun!
