Bass Making Program

Post by capsule » Mon Jan 08, 2007 9:31 pm

Im a poor student that is making (or trying to...) beats with FL6. I was wondering if there is a FREE program to create sick basslines. Im not familiar with anything else except FL6. I dont try to be stingy im just asking because i have to pay my rent, bills, school, you know the deal...

Are programs such as Cubase, Reason, etc handy as well? (Please say NO because i threw them of my PC because they are to complicated for me :? )

Cheers in advance,

Capsule

if i was u id put cubase and reason back on ure pc and use the 2 rewired together so that you can use reasons synths like the subtractor in cubase to get that bassline try loading a triangle patch in any synth and play around with the lfo and filter . your best bet for decent sound is cubase i would say keep away from fruity aswell

FL has some good bass synths, browse through the TS404 and the 3XOSC

the presets are pretty lame, but twist some knobs and you've got some nasty shit.

Damn...Its easy to get Reason/Cubase back, but the fact that it will take a while to understand keeps me away from them...

if you want to be able to do amazing producer things, you will learn how to do amazing producer things. Not trying to be an ass or anything, but if your interested in making dubstep (or any genre of music) then you'll learn how to do what it takes to make it.

For me, i struggled with some things alot. But with every song, and every loop and every sequence i made, i learned something new. Start messing with reason and just screw around. No pressure, just make wierd shit.

Figure out how things work. then re wire them in interesting ways. If you always do what you did, you'll always get what you got....

if ya feel me :6:

Yeah FL6 can actually get pretty mean if you tweak the right knobs and such

plugins are essential also, i like Zeta, Albino 2 or 3, and Vanguard mostly.

I'm in the EXACT same situation. I can't afford to buy anything these days except text books I don't read.

I would definitely say these guys are right in telling you to use the other programs. Once I made the jump from FL studio to a real deal program I immediately realized what I was missing. Also, FL kinda spoon feeds you. When I hear certain beats I can immediately pick out those cheesy fruity sounds. If you want to make music you're proud of you gotta dig a little deeper then just some "OK at everything but NOT great at anything" program like FL.

VSTs are the key if you want to get some cool/unique sounds. All I've done is search every noock and cranny of the interweb for freeware & charityware VST synths.

Check some of these "gems":
http://www.kvraudio.com/developer_challenge.php (these VSTs were made for an online competition so they have all been reviewed and have proven themselves)

http://www.tweakbench.com/ (Some very cool FREE toys including a decent bass synth)

http://odosynths.panicnow.net/vst.html (some are real cheesy but you might find something you really like)

Once I got the hang of a couple of these I realized how shitty FL is, and this is just the freeware shit! I can only imagine how amazing it would be to buy some synths like albino and the like.

Keep me posted if you find what you were looking for cuz I'm lookin for the same thing.

I used to seek new gear as I thought it was going to improve my sound. I wish someone would have told me this:

Make your samples as loud as possible before sequencing them

Sculpt the individual sounds you want by combining samples

Learn about envelopes, lfos, compressors and EQ

Finish your tunes

If you are comfortable using fruityloops then stick with it. You will know when you have outgrown it. All the skills you pick up will be transferable to other software
