Maybe I should have stated: "I converted to Renoise a year ago, best decision I ever made"

while I can always learn something new, a newbie Q&A thread is not really relevant to what I'm asking.

All I'm interested in is seeing how people have enjoyed the conversion. If the original post was vague as hell, I apologize. But "I like the search function?".....really now?

Only ever used Renoise, i always wanted to move away cos I felt i couldn't get decent production out of such a cheap DAW....

My views have completely changed, and this new update has made them even more sure...... i fucking love renoise

ive been meaning to play around with renoise a bit but just haven't had the time, so im also curious about the transition to a tracker, what the benefits are, if any, workflow differences etc

Not 100%, I dabbled in it pretty thoroughly snce it was Linux compatible, and I really like its parameter specific stuff, makes for some very detailed effecting n the like, but, really, FL is what fit, renoize with the dropping playlist... Needs my shizz horizontal

I started out on trackers. Impulse Tracker, Fast Tracker, Scream Tracker.

These days I'll rewire Renoise into ableton from time to time.

I started out on Live 2.0 i think, and then moved to reason 2.0, and then to cubase sx, and then to logic 8, and then to Renoise at around 1.8 i think. It's an incredible piece of software, with a UI that's poetic in it's simplicity. Since i've made the switch to exclusively using renoise, i've stopped using an external audio editor, since the one in renoise is more than 'good enough'. Hell it's faster than my experiences with my previous favorite, soundforge.

I'm a renoise user for life, it's great, and i get MUCH more music done with it, than with any other sequencer. stuff i make with it just sounds 'right' in a way that requires more work in other sequencers. It's native effects are dope, and i know a few producers that are 'big' that rely on them solely, much like i do. it's 'render selection to sample' function is badass, and i use it all the time.

my only gripe with Renoise, and probably trackers in general, is that there's no real 'easy' way for me to remix other peoples tunes. i mean, it can be done, and if im lucky enough to be able to ask the artist for individual samples and 8 bar loops, i can chop them up pretty quickly and throw them into Renoise. Though, for large audio files, it's easy to get lost with a tracker, i find. This is good too, though, since you're working with primarily with MIDI, and not bouncing down large 'loops', you can get into a part that you decide you want to change later, and change it easily.

I'd say that there are things i do in renoise in 5 minutes, every day, that would take at least an hour or two in any normal sequencer.

I've used a lot of normal sequencers, and im at the point with renoise where i just don't 'get' horizontal sequencers anymore. Also, if you can't properly see your music like you can in a horizontal sequencer, you're more apt to listen to how it actually sounds.
