Just getting started in dubstep

Post by KenshiHS » Mon Mar 01, 2010 6:40 pm

So ive been into dub for awhile, and i want to start doing my own work so i can spin at partys or events and stuff. I have a really creative mind and i have beats in my head that i want to get down so i can spin at a local party or even just because. Can i get any suggestions for beginner equipment i can buy to get started? Nothing too pricey because i have alot to pay for at the moment but a little set up that would get me through any party or something i would be spinning at.

Thanks

Well, unless you have them on CDs too, DJing isnt what your trying to learn.

I think you might wanna read up a bit about how electronic music works before you dive in man, DJs dont make the songs, they mix them. If youve got something original in your head, a setof decks isnt going to let it out. If you want too learn to mix sets, thats where djing comes in.

so play it and then while it''s playing remix it? that's pretty amitious

If you wanna DJ get on over to ebay and have a look at a couple of used turntables + mixer or a half decent midi mixer
if you wanna produce find/buy a DAW and a midi keyboard if you've got the money

If you wanna do both at the same time grow an extra pair of arms and then follow the above

I think he means he wants to produce his own tracks, then play them out alongside other commercial releases?

They're two totally different things though buddy, i wouldn't advise starting them both at the same time. I don't DJ but i assume that producing to a level where you can play out is more time consuming than learning to DJ? If so i'd start that first.
