Yo,
There are some people who know Thailand better than me, but that said I've spent a lot of time out there.
If you wanna party, I'd say spend a few days in Bangkok get to Phuket via AirAsia, costs about £16 each way, I personally like Kata beach on Phuket because it's chill, Patong is crazy, not my thing at all.
I love Phi Phi, it's cliché, but it was one of the most beautiful places in the world (with a 7/11 anyway haha). You can get a boat from Phuket Town, takes about an hour. Phi Phi is slightly more expensive on the main beach, sounds like you're going off season so you should be able to find a room for two for about $15 still, if you shop around. Phi Phi is good for partying too.
Be very careful with weed. My mate got stung for a £5000 fine and spend a week in one of the worst prisons in the world because he got caught.

You sound like you might fit in on Khao San Road.
Stay in a cockroach infested guesthouse, buy a redbull vest, drink buckets of red bull & sang som, get your hair braided, procure a cheap tattoo of some buddist symbol which bares no relevance to your existence, get ripped off by a tuk tuk driver, decide that fishermens pants are the best thing ever, suffer from terrible food poisoning due to eating in lonely planet recommended tourist shit holes, buy weed from some really friendly cop who is happy to receive a 10,000 baht bribe, go to Koh Phangan and cop off with some Israeli hippy who hasn't washed in three months, suffer from extreme dehydration and sunburn because you fell to the sleep on the beach, realise you have been robbed and lost your passport, credit cards and anal virginity.
When you get home you will make radical lifechanges such as becoming a Vegan, listening to Trance and leaving your parents £2 million pound townhouse to live in a squat in North London.
If this isn't you i apologise for being a twat and i will reply with all sincerity if need be.

I went to bangkok once and though it was only for one day that I was there I can definitely say it was an amazing city. I hope you have fun

Firstly i have been on holiday to magaluf, so horrific infested accomodation and the fact the local pharmacy gives out chlamydia pills for ANY and EVERY illness means that i am trying to look for maybe something with a little more culture/class than bangin house music and deals on sambuca..baron_von_carlton wrote:Helix [Delay] wrote:Ask Baron_von_Carlton.

But seriously, i hate redbull, braided hair, i wont get a tattoo of a a buddist symbol after all im not a buddist etc.... and i wont ever become a vegan.
We are pretty much looking for a paradise beach/island/place where we can get ourselves a shack on the beach and where the local town serves up fantastic food, there are nice local bars and basically so we can cotch on the beach listening to easy skankin. Hopefully someone knows about a general area which is off the beaten track but not such a small village that we will be incabable of doing much, but its mostly about chilllliiinnnnn.
P.S dont worry we are going to go to phuket for a few days so that i can get my fix of; infested guesthouse, buy a redbull vest, drink buckets of red bull & sang som, get your hair braided, procure a cheap tattoo of some buddist symbol which bares no relevance to your existence, get ripped off by a tuk tuk driver, decide that fishermens pants are the best thing ever, suffer from terrible food poisoning due to eating in lonely planet recommended tourist shit holes, buy weed from some really friendly cop who is happy to receive a 10,000 baht bribe, go to Koh Phangan and cop off with some Israeli hippy who hasn't washed in three months, suffer from extreme dehydration and sunburn because you fell to the sleep on the beach, realise you have been robbed and lost your passport, credit cards and anal virginity.

Re: THAILAND - where/what/who to do?
If that's the case try Koh Samet or Koh Chang. On the tourist trail but still pretty relaxed with plenty of good food to be had. Pretty close to Bangkok as well so not too much of a mission to get to.
If your feeling a little more adventurous head down to Trang.
Avoid Phi Phi and Krabi like the plague. Pure tourist hell.
If your planning on staying in Bangkok for a couple of days don't miss Chatuchak weekend market (mo chit BTS station) and head out to some packed thai night life areas such as RCA, Ekkamai and Thong Lor (no shorts or sandles/carry i.d) If you do hit Khao San road look for Brick Bar, Hippy Bar (no hippies
) or Gazebo. All three of these places are very popular with the Thais and your likely to avoid any sweaty backpackers.
Food wise Bangkok has a ridiculous amount of good places to eat. However without any knowledge of the language it's bloody impossible. An easy place to go would be Sukumvit Soi 38. This street is full of food vendors at night and some good eating is to be had. Most vendors have some experience with foreigners so you should be able to get fed. Get on the BTS/Skytrain and head to the station named Thong Lor.

Re: THAILAND - where/what/who to do?
Koh Samet is awesome, you get there by a ferry and there's hardly any traffic over there. the nights are beautifull with stars everywhere.
you can rent cottages on the beach, and the sea is beautifull. I celebrated NYE over there when i was 14! i will never forget it, it's a place i will return to in the next couple of years. There's some chill bars on the beach where they serve practically everything (great fish). And rent a scooter and drive around on the island.
plus it's not that far from bangkok, you can be there in 3 hours.

Re: THAILAND - where/what/who to do?
all the replies are much appreciated, as you can imagine without speaking to people with first hand experience its impossible to experience all the hidden gems. Travelling away from bangkok isnt a problem as we have around a month to make it from bangkok down to singapour so hopefully we can experience as many different places with as many different local cultures as possible.
thx again, peace.

do please watch out in the south of thailand, there has been some problems with local muslims over there (including murder, assault, adbductions).breeeeza wrote:all the replies are much appreciated, as you can imagine without speaking to people with first hand experience its impossible to experience all the hidden gems. Re: THAILAND - where/what/who to do?
But it's much more fun by road. Also the problem only exists in small areas of three of the southern provinces. The route from Phuket via Hat Yai is perfectly fine (89% of the timefretn wrote:do please watch out in the south of thailand, there has been some problems with local muslims over there (including murder, assault, adbductions).breeeeza wrote:all the replies are much appreciated, as you can imagine without speaking to people with first hand experience its impossible to experience all the hidden gems.
