Larynx

Post by irv » Sun Jan 14, 2007 8:22 pm

Hi there,

Firstly, hello to everyone on the forum.

I'm fairly new to dubstep but I've been listening to as much as possible over the last few weeks to try to get a feel for the whole genre - there's a lot of it that I'm not keen on but some real gems cropping up that I've been playing to death.

I absolutely love Milanese's sound, and I'm hoping someone can point me in the direction of some similar artists, but recently I heard a track by 'Larynx' called 'Access Granted' and it really blew me away - kind of trancey dubstep if you like - does anyone know anything more about Larynx?

Cheers.

:)

Heh, I don't mean trance as in Tiesto bullshite, I mean stuff with high lead-synths and a very mellow, kind of floaty aspect to dubstep. To be honest, the Larynx track is the only one I've heard that sounds like this so I can't give another example.

Ok, disclaimer - if you like Tiesto, good for you - while I'm a big dance music fan, Tiesto epitomises everything wrong with dance music for me, but that's just me - like whatever you like!

Anyways... gonna check out D1 that you mentioned..

Thanks Ory, I have Boxcutter's album, it's a little bit too experimental for me, I prefer stuff that's more, erm, time-signature-friendly, if you know what I mean. Didn't hate it by any means but I found Milanese to be dirty, filthy, bassy, hard and really well produced without crossing that line into IDM territory.

Gonna check out Neil Landstrumm though, haven't heard of him :)

hi irv

heard the track in my Rebeltronics mix?
Larynx is a mate of me called Sanakthe and Masuede.

the track is still unfinished, but we're trying to get the boys to pick up the lines again to make it a full track.

he isn't on this forum, try www.dubstep.nl or contact him trough myspace

and i think you could try some Vex'd
myspace.com/tiemoes
myspace.com/subwaydubstep

Hi T-mus,

Yeah, I heard the track on your mix (excellent btw), I'm a big forum poster on themixingbowl.org where your mix was posted by surgeon.

I hope that pair do finish the track, I've actually been on their myspace and listened to their other tracks, which I like but not quite as much as the first one. I'll try a bit of vex'd when I get home from work too, cheers for the heads up.

@ramadanman - I'll try some headhunter too ;)

Hi,

My friend Sanakthe just mailed me this topic and we both realy are blown away of all the positive reactions we got so far.
We realy appreciate all these reactions and it surely motivates us to finish the tune as soon as possible. Many thanks to T-mus for playing our tune.

Cheers!

Hello irv

yeah T-mus, ive had 31 downloads of your mix on the site I help maintain, and everyone agrees its top banana !!

Irv - go grab Vex'd breezeblock mix on the site, and go to there myspace and grab there ResonanceFM mix ... a superb radio station that doesnt get the amount of credit it deserves.

You might also look towards producers like Tyrant, Lemiwinks, and Innerlign. They're definitely holding it down for the melodic side of things.

Also, check out Reso's tune No Such Thing as Fate -Reso's Myspace.

Hope this helps

lol, ok I get the picture! ;)

I wasn't trying to label it as 'Trance-step' or anything, just trying to describe the sound of this particular track so that others could suggest similar tracks.

In relation to that thread about 'liquid' or 'intelligent' dubstep, I agree with the general feeling that the genre shouldn't be sub-divided into an4l categories with specific names, but it's still easier to describe how a track sounds if you can relate it perhaps to another 'style' of music, like i did here.

Cheers to everyone for the input, I've got a lot to work on now, looking forward to finding some quality tracks and artists.
