Do you use earplugs?
I thought this would be interesting to know. Heres some info:
On the decibel scale the smallest audible sound (near total silence) is 0 dB. A sound 10 times more powerful is 10 dB. A sound 100 times more powerful than near total silence is 20 dB.
An increase of only a few decibels has a dramatic effect on the danger to hearing – this is because each increase of 3 dB(A) represents a doubling of sound energy (and halves the time you should listen for). As an example, being on a dance floor for one hour at 100 dB(A) delivers the same amount of noise energy to the ear (and therefore potential damage) as being on a slightly less noisy dance floor at 97 dB(A) for two hours. There is a big difference in the length of time you can listen for if you turn the volume down.
20 dB(A) is a quiet room at night
60 dB(A) is ordinary conversation
70 dB(A) is a city street
80 -110 dB(A) is a night club
110dB(A) is a pneumatic drill nearby
110 - 120 dB(A) is a rock concert
130 dB(A) is an aeroplane taking off 100 metres away
140 db(A) is a the threshold of pain for many people
Sounds over 80dB can damage your hearing. By law if your workplace has noise over 85 its required to tell you and provided earplugs i think. Earbuds can reduce the noise, you can a pair for £10-15 that reduce noise by 10-20dB across the board.

I use ER20s (reduce sound by 20dBs)
....what?

i got me some of those and theyre real good, worth spendin the cash on.. im not the biggest fan of earplugs cos they can make you feel weirdly detached from the dance, but it is real nice to get home after a rave and not be kept awake by the damn screamin in yr ears or the 'noia of thinkin you might have finally busted yr hearin for goodThe Wiggle Baron wrote:So, these badwoys will be dandy?

if u've had it a month solid then you've got it permanently. that's terrible... i'm really sorry.ramadanman wrote:er20 crew
despite wearing them virtually whenever i go out to clubs, i've still had tinnitus for about a month. i think it's probably permanent....![]()
anyhow, £14 or something for the er20s - silly not to buy em imo
if they cost £14 they don't do enough to save ur ears. ur only anywhere NEAR safe if u pay around £100. it's worth the money cos once you've got tinnitus, a perforated eardrum, are partially deaf... that's it. u can't get it back ever.
so if u've got cheaper ones remember to be careful because they're not blocking out enough to keep your ears safe... at your average club, u need to give ur ears a break after 15-20 minutes. which is scary innit, cos how many of u do that?

Well, i live in Wales, as such i cant exactly make it to dubstep nights regularly. Every DMZ and subloaded, and then maybe a couple of other one offs or something. So what, 10 gigs a year tops probably. Im sure i would be fine without them to be honest, but i aint risking it. (Just bought ER20's)
Also, the soundsystem in the union where i get my ears pounded every week by some of the shittest music this world has to offer is absoloutely rank. Horrible, horrible clashy nasty sounding trebly pain. Looking forward to not hearing that shit as loudly...
