Bassbins/scoops/cabinets (with prize!)

Just wondering who runs a bassbin or a scoop, as i have a few questions

Im looking to either make or buy one, and after searching through many pages of internet plans i am still undecided. So I thought the dubstep community might be able to shed some knowledge on my project...

I am looking to create a miniture sound set-up for my studio (in a garage, concrete floor). Consisting of a bass scoop and a set of mids, im confident when it comes to making the cabinet or box but am completely clueless when it comes to amps and wiring.

Could someone please explain to me step-by-step what i will need to do, the difference between crossover and passive systems (and what they are), what drivers to get, what amp to get, which is the best box design etc etc.. along with anything else at all to do with setting them up. basically a step by step guide as to everything that i will need to do.

Also if you have your own set up please post pictures!

Everything really depends on how much bass you need. I would never build big system for a studio.

Those scoops in your link are really cheap btw, I'd go for them if I needed 15" scoops.


I've built myself two 18" C-subs, double 15" reflex, and mid/top with 2x 12" and horn. Total 4500W RMS. I'm going to build another set soon, but this one is a killer on it's own.

those scoops look good value. They are cheap because they're made out of mdf and not 13 laminate ply. This means that they're a fair bit heavier but that shouldn't be a problem if they're staying in one place. I think stapier is on the speakerplans forum.

However i really wouldn't recomend using a scoop to produce with. Scoops are very warm sounding, not a clean sound.

Dont think many people use them out of choice. Its all about folded cabs.

Scoops project more in my opinion, especially outside. Have recently built a couple of 18's and they dominate dubstep. Dont get me wrong folds are awesome and definately a cleaner sound.

Yeah im looking for a warm sound, these are going to be im a semi-open room and are going to be used for parties and chilling sessions. I basically just want something powerful and subby, not too interested in defined clarity really.. im looking for a nice scoop!

What amp would i need to power those two scoops? are there any specific amps anyone would recommend?

Pretty sure the seller would be able to recomend you an amp. You might also want to check with him how low these will go. Our 15s don't go down smooth to 30 in a group of 4, though they are a different design. They go lower the more you have.

also building can be tricky, depending on how good your are with wood, what tools you have ect....

your better off asking over on the forum i suggested mate, the people there know there shit, also you could just do some research instead on being givin it on all on plate (you'll learn more)
