Equipment questions. Please Help!

Post by erock1 » Fri Apr 02, 2010 2:57 pm

Hi,

I am completely new to the digital music scene and am looking to start learning Ableton as a hobby.

The things I am interested in doing are

-Combining rap & hip hop acapellas with electronic music to make my own mashups
-Making “dubsteppy” type music similar to that of Bassnectar/SKREAM/Rusko etc.

From what I have read it seems that Ableton is probably the best software for me needs but I am very confused about what other equipment I need. Should I be getting a the LaunchPad controller, the UC33 controller, the PadKontrol controller, the BCR2000 mixer, a different one?

Also, if I were to go the cheap route and get one of the following, which would be most beneficial?

-Korg nanoKONTROL
-Korg nanoPAD
-Korg nanoKEY

I am very confused about what is right for me, my budget is around $200 or less. What is best for my needs? Let me know if you have any other questions…

Thanks!

You wont really NEED anything else other than ableton to do these things, BUT a controller will help speed things up for sure.

you'll want to be looking more the MIDI Keyboard route, and then choosing your VST's for making your tracks.

Welcome to DSF anyways man. :t:

Don't get the NanoKey!! Get the Akai LPK25 instead. Way more solid.

The NanoKontrol is dope though. With your budget the LPK25 and a NanoKontrol will get you started nicely.
