Going to a dubstep night by yourself?
Anyone ever considered or done this?
I'm contemplating on the idea within a few weeks as my mates ain't interested in seeing the people that I like. Keep getting this cinema feeling though that people will give you the funny looks.

Been to a few things by myself, cant speak for the particular event you're going to but it was pretty cool every time I've been.
Just get your plot in the crowd, dance, have a good time and you're cool, if you stand in the back feeling out of place then you'll look out of place.

Haha yeh, I was thinking if I did go by myself I'm deffinitely getting in on the hotspot and arriving an hour after the doors open, well depending on the set times. At the end of the day it's all about the music though ain't it.

I go to 90% of events alone, Baltimore is NO mecha for electronic music. Just go and enjoy, nobody will think you're alone or care if you are. Just another face in the crowd...

Yeh, I tend to find from the music nights that it's more of a appreciative thing as opposed to a social enviroment? Obviously there's the ravers that just want to get pure fucked also but the majority is just there for the music.
Re: Going to a dubstep night by yourself?
I missed out on the night here in Philly when DFRNT was in town because I didn't have anyone to go with. Don't make that mistake.

Seriously considering going to see Starkey in Cleveland while all my friends see Bassnectar on Saturday, only thing keeping me is that DJ Vadim is opening for him.

yep its been done, but everyone in the raves are so nice!
jus chat to a random and skank out for a bit with them then move on.
you feel like a bit of a cock going in but when you're in, no one remembers or even cares

Went to DMZ when they were visiting Malmö and I'm really glad I did. It's easy to make up reasons not to go when your friends aren't, but if you go to the right dubstep night chances are that you will have good times with people you would probably not have interacted with if you went with your friends.

i dunno if this still holds with the current state of the scene, but usually ppl at dubstep nights are quite friendly and you will meet people there. you may not have come with them or spend the whole night with them as you would people you know, but you can at least have a bit of company for a while.
Re: Going to a dubstep night by yourself?
Go to the majority of nights on my own....none of my mates are into it.
Re: Going to a dubstep night by yourself?
often went alone, sometimes with travelling 3 hours to get there.
aboslutely ez. sometimes i even prefer it to go alone. it depends on teh mood. but obviously for me, going to a dubstepshow isn't actually a party. that's why i never call it party anyway.
i think the quote in my sig tells it all.
don't need anyone to talk to while i'm in that haze. luckily there are still nights around that have this mentality instead of the brainless party-get drunk-mosh pit-mentality

You could always hook up wth a fellow DSF member...
I'm sure Kp Mike and Rusk0 are around.
Seriously though. If it's quite big then it's likely a member will be there.

Yeh after considering I think I'll go by myself. It's the DMZ/Exodus in Leeds and I really want to see Goth-Trad and Distance! Should be heavy.
Re: Going to a dubstep night by yourself?
You'll hardly be on your own, there'll be another 1000 people there who are there for exactly the same reason as you: the thunderous bass and the music plus its so dark inside the West Indian Centre that no one can see if you're with anyone else or not.kli1 wrote:Yeh after considering I think I'll go by myself. Buy a ticket though.

Going to the WIC on your own is never a problem, done it myself.kli1 wrote:Yeh after considering I think I'll go by myself. It's the DMZ/Exodus in Leeds and I really want to see Goth-Trad and Distance! Should be heavy.

I pretty much always end up going on a solo mission as no one I know is really into the stuff I like. Seriously considering exodus on 24 April, though everything seems like such a trek from Edinburgh!
He danced for eighteen hours staring straight into the sun, until at length a great vision came... He believed the world was made of shadow and that he could dream himself into the real world that lay beyond...
Re: Going to a dubstep night by yourself?
I used to go alone all the time, still do but to a lesser extent now that I've discovered the concept of having friends who're into dubstep. No problem at all as it's a pretty laid back scene, you might even get to know new people. I still bump into people who recognise me from a couple years back, not exactly strangers now but not mates either as such
In any case, as I'm the odd non-smoker, I tend to end up wandering about on my own anyway while other people go out for smoke breaks every hour or so. As long as you're having a good time and look like you're having a good time (as opposed to making a twat of yourself), other people who're also having a good time will gravitate around you (and vice versa).
