I did a search and couldn't find anything on this, but I was wondering what people think the first Dubstep track ever was? I've done a bit of research and I've heard Distance's "Horizon"... Even though most of it is Dark Garage, the beat goes half time at one point in the track and it sounds like that is the beginning of the Dubstep sound

Seriously debatable, a lot of people would say A track by Horsepower, but a lot of people could argue and say Horsepower would be UK garage. It's hard to pin point the start of dubstep because it was a transition. In my opinion it is:
1995 - Scorn "Time Went Slow"? Also, there is a remix he did of Surgeon "Waiting" in 1997 on Tresor as Mick Harris. Both of these tracks may not have the "snare on the 3rd" the we are all so familiar with but the elements are certainly there. More so on the Surgeon remix...
didnt Chase and Status have things on bingo back in 2003?? thats pretty early and i wouldnt have called it Garage, but yeh, no definite starting point, just transition, as with pretty much everything

For Example.
Calpol is going to ruin Tapas Bars.
exactly. it would be impossible to say for sure, because you're talking about a developing sound right on the cusp of UKG,2step and grime. there's about 10 tunes you could name from Zed Bias, Horsepower, Ghost, Groove Chronicles, EL-B and early tempa that would be worthy of calling the first tunes, but to name one as first would be silly.
its the same thing as saying "this is the first ever jungle tune." impossible. there's dozens of tunes at the end of acid/hardcore (1988-1990) days that you could call the start of jungle.
