Are dubstep tunes better with out without lyrics?

Post by truefiktion » Fri Apr 16, 2010 11:57 am

I still dont know if I prefer tunes with lyrics or not....hmmmm! Some examples Skream's mix of In For The Kill wouldnt of been as famous or well known if he just made the instrumental. Sick As Sin or Face Gets Splat by Stagga are automatically more listenable because of the lyrics. But then consider tunes like Dutch Flowers by Skream or Go Go Gadget which would just be ruined with lyrics. Im still undecided :?

exactly

depends completely on the style of the tune and the style of the lyrics

if the styles are similar

instrumentals are at the roots of this sound --> hence "dub" or b-side

but obviously the human voice is a musical instrument as well

dubstep tunes are better when they are done well, vocals or not

I suppose if the instrumental is good enough why would you need vocals

I agree. The one exception imho:

The original is a classic. The vocal version somehow manages to be better.

well lots of reasons

producer - vocalist collabs are wonderful because the tunes become this middle ground between 2 people's musical vision

I would prefer to have both versions tho

sometimes I want words in my head .. sometimes words distract me

instrumentals let my thoughts roam, songs put the tune on my tongue

I generally prefer my dubstep with out vocals. When you put vocals in it changes everything because you have a person telling you what to think instead of you thinking for yourself. Don't get me started on shit MC's ruining a perfectly good tune.

gotta disagree with you strongly on this one, LOVED the original
the vocals on this sound cheeze to me, the only song on the album i skip, and believe you me, it hurts to skip Qawwali
