‘CHAIN DAMAGE’ @ BRIXTON JAMM, SAT 1ST MAY 2010.
MAY DAY BRINGS SIGNIFICANCE, PEOPLE POWER, HISTORY AND A BANGIN PARTY IN BRIXTON
The event was first inspired by some of London’s most treasured venues that are either closed or under threat of closure, such as Plastic People, New Piccadilly Cafe, The Foundry, Shunt, Astoria, The Torriano, and numerous other gems that amount to an average of around 8 withdrawn licences per day in the UK. Warehouse communities, markets and independent shops are one by one being replaced by Tescos, car-parks, shopping malls and olympic stadiums— but It would be foolish to say that this was only happening in our city, for areas are losing their stories and personalities all over the world.
Chain damage would like to take the first step towards uniting all those that care, hoping that soon it will be a confident stride paced by enough feet to make a difference... And what better way to start, than to throw a party?
May day brings a selection of genuine artists to the Brixton Jamm, showcasing a journey through the last 20 years of underground music. The mighty Congo Natty, Randall, zomby and Moody Boyz will be demonstrating why they have their place in history. Defdfires will surprise all with their unrivalled lyrics and bass-fuelled skanks, and it all begins with the smoky sounds of Screaming Soul featuring Ghetto Priest of Asian Dub Foundation/On-U Sound, and Sandman from Underground Alliance. With many more surprises in the hat, it is apparent that this is a show not to be missed and a cause not to be ignored.
BREAK THE CHAINS.
