Recommend me some dubstep with a heavy reggae/dub influence.

Post by shroomy » Mon Apr 19, 2010 10:40 pm

I was flicking through new releases on chemical last night looking for something in this style and not really finding much to my liking, Im a bit out of touch with the scene at the moment so Im not really up to date with whats been coming out over the past few months.

I popped a thread up on dnba and got a few reccomendations but the response was hardly overwhelming to say the least, Im hoping you guys could be more helpful. Im really loving a lot of the war series of unofficial remixes and RSD usually comes up with the goods, that john legend remix on copypaste was pretty big too so anything along those lines (Basically anything without too much wobble or screechy synths!).

Any suggestions, be it unreleased or something thats been out for a few months already, would be much appreciated.

Mala, who also produces with Coki as Digital Mystikz (although it could just be one of them and credited to Digital Mystikz)

Tunes like Sinners, Bluenotez, Lean Forward, In Luv, Unexpected, Pop Pop Epic, Return II Space, Mountain Dread March etc.

All the Deep Medi Musik/Anti Social Entertainment crew, Silkie (Hooby), Quest (The Seafront) Harry Craze (Thirty Six Hours), VIVEK (Meditation Rock), Hijack (Dally), Heny G etc.

Also worth checking Shackleton (Hamas Rule), Cyrus (Rule), Pinch (Get Up), Skream (Summer Dreams, Dutch Flowers) etc. all though not always dubby

Hessle Audio Crew (Pangaea + Ramadanman etc.) aswell as Martyn, Appleblim, Zomby, Ikonika also make excellent music though.

there is more obviously dubby stuff (some Synkro (Attack), Radikal Guru etc. but then your probably better of diggin out the King Tubby, Scientist and Mad Professor anyway...

Big list there haha, to be honest though I was after stuff that was closer to reggae/dub than a lot what youve mentioned there. Ive always thought a lot of the above as being more atmospheric than dubby (Not that I dont like it, its just not really what Im after), theres an obvious influence there but the overall sound is totally different if you ask me.

Of course there are exceptions in there, like dally for example, so Ill be checking out the ones Im not already familiar with still.

Cheers for the help.

Dunno bout more recent stuff... RSD and OSC come to mind, but I'd honestly like to hear more rootsy stuff coming from the big producers.

Watch out for them they've got some authentic dubstep sub smashers, dark and minimal, heard some previews at their studio and them are so sick!
