MTV - The Wrap Up Article: The Future Of Dubstep.

Post by Benjamin_Hill » Wed Apr 21, 2010 4:41 pm

Hey, I was asked a while back to write up a small article on the Dubstep scene for the MTV blogging network called The Wrap Up.
I tried to shine as much light on where Dubstep is now and where it all began without being too long winded about it.

Any feedback would be amazing, thanks...

mate, you touch on some points that are worth discussion, but the article needs some copy editing.

Hey man. I read the article.

Where did you get your information for this? Is it all speculation?

It would be nice to have some quotes from artists, promoters, fans --- somebody.

The article is really missing your "voice" or personal style. Sorry to be so harsh, but I worked as a journalist for about 4 years, and this sounds like a blog entry.

Flying Lotus writes hip hop. Rustie writes hip hop (at least 80% of the time). Geeneus produces & djs Funky. So does Cooly G.

"progressive" *vomit*

this is exactly the kind of article I would expect to be associated with mtv.

i get what the article is trying to present, but it's misguided.

fire you're editor, that first paragraph is a trainwreck.

Tis true.
with most people either going into the darker and heavier stuff which producers like Dub Police and Caspa etc are making which they're calling, ‘Brostep’. Then you’ve got the leftfield sound which is going under the title of ‘Joystep’, which is represented by the likes of Joy Orbison, Martyn and Flying Lotus. A step at a time, ay? (Pun intended).
^Where did you get that overview from?

Joystep :?

i dunno if its just me but i've never heard that used.

yeah no offense but it does seem a bit misguided, and the problem with that is alot of people unfamiliar with the scene would probably read something like that on whatever mtv website it is and come out of it being really misinformed

On the other hand bedroom producers have also made some key remixes in the scene without even playing one gig.
Is it normal I'm confused by this?

using phrases like "brostep" in an article like this seem pretty stupid aswell, since as far as i know its a phrase made up by the community rather than actually coined by people leading the scene

half the intended audience isn't gonna have a clue about stuff like that and they dont need to

I googled "joystep dubstep" (no quotes). The first hit was your article.
