repeat of the same dumbass debate that has gone on in millions of threads on this board, people who think jumpup is killing dubstep, or that it's "the dark side" as you call it, are full of shit. yes there are people who don't like it. yes it's responsible for making dubstep more mainstream. it's all still dubstep. don't listen to the artists, don't go to their shows, but most importantly, don't whine about what they're "doing to the genre"
also noone care about your blog and this is not a "MUST READ FOR ALL DUBSTEP FANS"

thats fair enough, I know its not a new point to make. Im not whining for no reason, I was commissioned to write that article for a magazine and I was asked to be confrontational.
Im not saying jump up is killing it, just that a few artists are making some horrible music and are dampening the name. i do realise that the article kinda says that the whole side is bad, but it wasnt intended.
i put that at the end of the thread title to get people to read it, and i do know that no one cares about my blog cheers.

again fair enough, but as Ive said I was asked to be confrontational.
I would love to bitch about Trance, but unf I was writing a dubstep column. I did think (I guess wrongly) that the opinion in the article would ring true. Though it just seems to have opened a load of old debates. what was wrong with it to you deadly habit? I tried to cover all the bases, but it appears that most people aren't liking it.

it's the same old tired shit spewed over and over. simple solution me as a producer, dj, and listener: i make what i like, buy and spin what i dig, and ignore the stuff i don't without whinging like a 12 year old about it. music is 100% subjective to the listener, and doesn't need to be an elitist my taste is better than yours shouting match.AbandonSilence wrote:deadly habit wrote:wow what a load of crap, and i'm not too into that sound either. i love these people with their us vs them attitude. if you're gonna bitch about something bitch about trance or hhc or something that deserves it.

Re: New Dubstep Article! A MUST READ FOR ALL DUBSTEP "FANS"
i have just seen too much of this stuff lately and this article seems to just target wobble/heavy stuff as everything that's wrong with dubstep and it's not....specifically you claim it all stems from fabriclive 37 and ends up with idiots making shitty remixes in ableton and britney spears/rihanna making dubstep tracks (which, imo, is a good thing. dubstep being popular isn't bad, in fact, i love that i can take more and more of my friends to a dubstep show). theres a reason those kids cranking out dogshit in ablton don't get too popular and it's precisely BECAUSE their stuff is unoriginal or poorly made. i think it's completely untrue that "the genre has only gone over ground on the back of the previously mentioned remixes and wobble attacks." yes these are popular, but why would something that allows greater access to something terrific - dubstep in its entirety - be a bad thing?
you dont like hype as much as deep dubstep. ok, you arent alone. but to say that wobble is everything bad about dubstep is not correct. the best and most influential producers/djs use some kind of wobble. some people just like shitty music, most people i know who are into dubstep haven't found it through the likes of borgore, cookie monsta, whoever. if you make original and interesting music you will influence your listeners. all music that has been made has been influenced by something, and everything being created today will influence something else. the best producers have remained, skream, benga, digital mystikz, and yes, ill say it though for different reasons, caspa and rusko. and people who put out crap won't stick around for long.
also, fuck trance and hhc! i'd take jumpup any day over that shit!

Some good points there, I can see the pluses and negatives of dubstep getting into the mainstream.
i said in the article that 'wobble' is usually a good thing.
most of my friends who are just coming into it say things like, "have you seen that mt eden remix, it was of some guy called Burial". Thats where the article came from, it just came from my own experiences with my mates.
and i agree about hhc and trance, fuck that.

i also found it kinda ironic you listed 6blocc as original since for a period he was one of those guys churning out remixes and tunes that sounded just like those kids sitting down for 5 minutes in their daw with little consistency with his mixdowns, no mastering and like an ep a week. my opinion is no more valid than yours, just saying there's a reason why music is subjective and jumping on the hate bandwagon is just as bad as the hipsters who jump on a scene because it's popular.

Thats fair enough as well, I only came across 6Blocc through their Hazardous Dubs EP and Never Scared. tbh i didnt realise that was how they came in.deadly habit wrote:i also found it kinda ironic you listed 6blocc as original since for a period he was one of those guys churning out remixes that sounded just like those kids sitting down for 5 minutes in his daw with little consistency with his mixdowns, no mastering and like an ep a week. my opinion is no more valid than yours, just he is one of the artists who's newer stuff i haven't peeped because of the constant bombardment of imo mediocre generic tunes and remixes.

It goes nowhereCheck it out, it goes pretty deep.
I hope that you haven’t mistaken the last seven paragraphs as me saying dubstep is dead. Not in the slightest. Well, in a way it is.

Just got to say mate, I commend you for being so nice about it when people dissed you.
The title of the thread didn't do you any favours though.
Article is a lot better written than a lot (and even my own stuff!). Saying that it isn't brilliant - but i understand you ,like me, probably just enjoy writing! But do not try push your stuff down peoples necks, as it seems you are doing with the title - a little link in your sig and maybe 1 modest rolling thread about the blog would do if it's good it will grow.
My friend who runs the site I write on has, on a few occasions, asked me to write reviews of tracks I hated, I told him no because I only want to write about stuff I do like. I have never once read a websites review section in order to find out about rubbish CDs, I only want to hear about the good.

Re: New Dubstep Article! A MUST READ FOR ALL DUBSTEP "FANS"
You should split it equally man and come at reviews with an objective (to a certain extent) view point. I read the review section to see what people are saying about anything; good, bad or indifferent.(Pada) wrote:I told him no because I only want to write about stuff I do like. A review should give you an idea of what to expect, interspersed with the reviewers personal critique.
It's easy to explain why somethings good but you should flex your pen explaining why something is bad as well.
Re: New Dubstep Article! A MUST READ FOR ALL DUBSTEP "FANS"
I think that the article was well written, however, a little misdirected due to you trying to simply have a go on one.
Maybe look at why this has happened, the benefits of it ( fan base, producers, raves ) and provide some foresight into the future of dubstep. You may say you can't do this, but, if you are going to write an article with such a strong opinion, then you must at least be able to address some balance or fully expand on what you are saying.
And yes, I do agree with you - But not wholly: Music is music, at the end of the day!
