The digital recorders appreciation thread

Post by daft cunt » Thu May 20, 2010 7:12 am

I finally bought a Pocketrack CX recently after a very long time of hesitation and I must say I'm glad I did.
I was not sure I'd know what to record and if that would really be helpfull in my tunes but it all became pretty obvious the day I received it.
I just keep it in my pocket everywhere I go and usually come back home with many cool and personal samples.

If you feel your tunes lack something or you're not satisfied with the samples you can find on freesound or soundsnap, it might be just what you need.

Usually the Zooms H-2 or H-4n comes to mind when thinking about recorders. I didn't try those and while I'm sure they're quality recorders if you're low on money and want to save an average 40 euros you can buy the CX on trust. The sound quality is stunning.

So, who's got one and what's your experience with it ?

Have not got one, but been wanting one for a while. So +1 on the post your experiences

is yours a yamaha?? can't find that model at my local shop

in cheaper range m-audio microtrack is supposed to be good. Or maybe tascam dr-07. I need to dig out some reviews again. H4n is too expensive for me, for just recording samples.

Couldn't find it in local shops either so I bought it at DV247 where it's pretty cheap.

Heard good things about the Tascam too.

Yeah this kinda of sound can be incredibly melodic. I recorded one that sound close to a twisted sax. Instant madness!

Can this take 4gb and 8gb cards too? Because i have a lot of those. Either way this seems pretty good and was looking to get one of these.

Anyone have any other suggestions for a recorder in this price range? £100. If not i think this may be the one seeing as it has pretty good reviews.

edit: woops, click quote instead of edit.

First, note the CX uses micro SD cards. I don't know about the 4/8 Gb. 2 Gb is plenty tho.

Closest matches for the price range are these surefya talked about : m-audio microtrack or tascam dr-07.

Yeah 2gb is quite a lot for just samples actually and a spare would be cheap anyway. thanks.

Edit: Just bought the Pocketrack CX. £99 free delivery. :)

Used the ZooM Series and im well impressed. Really clear recordings that really seem to place the recordings how you would hear them (if that makes sense). Its Quadraphonic too!

I've just been going through hundreds of old cassette tapes, one of which could be 30 years old, what an experience to have all of these audio memories. I did a stint with a minidisc, but what a hassle that was. I REALLY want one of these, like really really bad. LIKE REALLY BAD.

Just bought a tascam dr-07. So far its great. recording picks up little taps and movements from touching the case, as with almost any recorder. but its not hard to be still.
great recorder for the price with 24 bit
