dubstep dont need "edits" from djs in other scenes

Post by cheeba » Thu May 20, 2010 7:20 am

Some twats done an "Edit" of joy orbison's wheres the whistle crew. http://soundcloud.com/jurassik/joy-orbi ... -crew-edit

Why do djs/producers from other scenes feel the need to take a perfectly decent tune, lay a real bait drum loop over it and call it a edit WTF???

Someone else played me some terrible mix's of caspa and benga by some tech house dj and just put a 4x4 over it.
how low can you go.

Don't know about that but I quite like this one:

I reckon if it gets people from other scenes listening to a bit of dubstep then why not? It's all good.

In all fairness, a lot of dubstep "refits" and "remixes" etc are the original track with some wobble on it.

Fairly lol worthy i think.

yeah, i'd say dubstep is one of the biggest culprits when it comes to remixing tunes from other genres, in the way that alot out there are done with zero creativity and all that is added is the trademark dubstep wob :u:

totally waters down the sound. its the bullshitters ploy to try and get free attention off the back of joy orbison/hotflush. this is the state of things today. take the biggest tune of the last few months, don't bother to get the stems the proper way, lump some crap over the top of it, render, and then call yourself a remixer. joy orbison's refixing is nothing in comparison to others. think about how many shit refixes of burial are kicking about. this is what the label boss had to say about them...

*shrugs* Dubstep DJs don't play em out anyways, why worry about what's going on in the next room or the next club over?

Admitedly, I like DJ Dials' Cash Money mashup because it makes the track sound less like House rather than more though.

This.

Tho it seems like the "cross pollination" of different genres are where some interesting musical mutations might appear. As a DJ I want music that will rock my dancefloor. Where that music comes from or who remixed it doesnt matter. I've played music for thousands all night long and not had one single person walk to ask what artist made that tune. The kids on the dancefloor don't seem to care who wrote the music.

Oh and this is total f*cking bullshit every time i post something :

lol. must protect dubstep!!!!!!!!!!!!

stop being party poopers. edits are fun. sometimes they suck, but sometimes everything & everyone sucks.

as a DJ, it fun to sometimes pull out a edit of something ive already played out, in a fresh style with familiar elements...

its a tribute to the original, if its not being sold, why so cynical?

the same blessing that allows for the amazing diversity of DIY bedroom production and worldwide communication and sharing of styles, has enabled the edit phenomena in what i think is a just straight up awesome & fun way. and the DJ dance edit is as old school as the DJ, dunno why anyone in dance music would think for a second they were immune lol

I generally think they're a bad idea...but, although not from a different 'genre' really...the series L-Vis 1990 did are perfect.

I don't turn on Korn to get it on, I be playin Digi Mystikz 'til the dawn

Sorry to have upset you Cheeba. But as someone who clearly knows so much about the scene it does seem a bit strange that you think Joy Orbison's tune was called Where's the Whistle Crew (this was just the name of my edit!).

Given that the original is more future garage anyway, I can't really see how I'm upsetting the dubstep applecart, but apologies if I've annoyed anyone. I would have thought that with people like Skream using more and more sampled breakbeats in their tunes, this re-edit - which is really just a DJ tool - might have gone down well in these quarters. Anyway, if anyone wants it, feel free to message me - it's been professionally mastered and shiz.
