Bogged down mac help.

Post by dr_winston » Thu May 20, 2010 12:21 pm

RIght, my macbook is starting to be a bit boggy (taking longer to boot up, being slower than usual). Do you guys know of any programs / tips for cleaning it up and returning it to it's former glory?

cheeeeers... :t:

First of all there is a probably a lot of extra files all over the place that you don't (or no longer) need such as duplicate copies in iTunes or downloads folders, etc. Next, I would repair permissions (in the Disk First Aid, but you'll need to boot up from your original install disc).

As for 3rd party solutions, Disk Warrior was always very good to me. I haven't used it on my Macbook - but back when I had an iBook, it kept that lil' guy running smooth.

Download Onyx http://www.titanium.free.fr/pgs/english/apps.html. Use it to repair permissions and to run daily/weekly/monthly maintenance scrpits. You can also delete caches and so on...

edit. Also, OSX slows down if you have less than 10% free space on your hard drive.
