I have a question on sidehain compression. So, i know that normally the compressor, when used normally should be placed first in the FX chain. But know i wanna sidechain my sub to the kick, so where should i put the unit that does the sidechain. I reckon that if i want it to duck out completely then last, and if i just want it to leave some space i could place it first, but i really dont know. What are your thoughts on this?

Re: Sidechain compression
Well, i think i know what the concept in sidechaining is. What i wanted to know was where to place the sidechain unit in the FX chain, and this didnt really help me to be honest.deadly habit wrote:the concept is the same behind it allPlasticsun wrote:This looks really interesting. Re: Sidechain compression
simple: do you wanna get your sound, and then sidechain that whole thing, or do you want to affect the sound of the already-sidechained material?
experiment.

Re: Sidechain compression
Yeah i figured that that was what it pretty much came down to. But theres no pros and cons or anything? I guess i'll just follow my ears then. The reason i am asking is, if theres one thing i learned then it is that you gotta watch those low frequencies man. We dont want any clashes down there.Sharmaji wrote:simple: do you wanna get your sound, and then sidechain that whole thing, or do you want to affect the sound of the already-sidechained material?

Re: Sidechain compression
Sidechain last.
The whole point is to duck the sound. And if you're ADDING sound after the ducking, then you've defeated yourself. You already knew the answer.
