DJ's: If you perform in Israel you condone massacre

Post by westernsynthetics » Mon May 31, 2010 2:40 pm

Raw footage from the last 24 hours aboard a free Gaza protest ship in the Mediterranean:

Further proof of why DJ's should boycott apartheid Israel.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/blog/20 ... gaza-ships

The last time I brought this up I received death threats and racist hate mail from pro Israel lunatics on this forum.
To the admin's eternal shame I was banned for speaking out and standing up to this racism.

Here is what Dubway (the admin of this forum) said in an email correspondence dated 03/03/10:

"This forum is international - people from all countries off the world can access it, incl. Israel. Posting a 'Boycott Israel' thread is bound to provoke strong reactions. If you can't anticipate this, you shouldn't post such a potentially antagonistic thread."

My reply:
I did anticipate strong reactions, I just didn't anticipate being banned by the forum for standing up to racism.
Ok I think I get it now. Moving forward we should remain silent on issues like war and oppression on dubstepforum.

I presume this also extends to homophobia and sexism?

I never got a reply to this question.

If you value using this forum don't speak out against racism and injustice by posting "antagonistic threads" or else you may be banned and your posts deleted...
When events like the massacre of the Gaza flotilla happen they need to be discussed. Even on music forums.

Awaits to be :q:

It does look like a terrible act by Israel there but I don't really see how denying fans of good music their opportunity to party is helping anything. Join Amnesty International and do something pro-active, don't stop some kids from listening to DMZ...

it helps cos it let's them know that the world doesn't condone what they get up to, which is very different from the bullshit their government tells them
obviously just boycotting djing is not enough, it needs to be the whole shabang

Anything people can do to make a difference/ get the message out there is worthwhile.

You have my support bro. This is an outrage in a long list of atrocities commited by the Israëli military and government.

Let it be known that I do not support zionism (which nowadays makes u a izan....crazy world, crazy world...)

its a topic thats incredibly important and no one with any kind of morality could see it different. that said, this is a music forum, and your intention to spread awareness about this problem is marred by the fact that you seek confrontation, and want to turn the thread into a battleground. that sort of thing goes against everything this forum is about, as we're trying to make community, not separate community. the focus here is music, and music has no borders, but in a global context, there's discussion that polarizes people into camps. abortion, religion, war, etc....individually everyone will take a side, so what you end up with is a lot of raised blood pressure, and nasty arguments that go on and on and on. this also puts the moderators in a position of having to pull the brakes on the discussion, which no one likes to have happen, and i can guarantee they don't like to do either. sure, you could argue that music and social/political movements go hand in hand, but on the internet they sure as hell don't. they just bring crazy energy to this place. there's a lot of other venues to spread your viewpoint about israel, and i encourage you to do so, but this place isn't for encouraging conflict. its the same way you'd never bring this topic up in a public place in front of real people, but you'd do so sitting comfortably behind your screen from home?

before you start marching back at me with free speech, remember that this is private website and you post here at no cost, so by default you never had free speech. crying about getting banned or getting no reply just makes you look silly, and you're not stupid, so don't turn this into a pity party.

Stereotyping entire countries/people is obviously the next level of enlightenment.

ordinarily i see your point, but israel is different
mainly because the population has no problems with the atrocities they commit (or they don't show it)
instead, they seem to love defending their actions

did this thread not already happen? i could go red in the face thinking about what the israeli administration get up to, but so could i with the US, UK, and tbh the fucking world in general. i'd guess that those israelis that attend dubstep nights are not zionists, and depriving a country of a certain type of music with almost no mainstream popularity isn't going to make a difference to anything.

don't get me wrong, the situation in the area is beyond belief, but again i imagine israeli dubsteppers feel the same.

Just seen the Israeli ambassador to Ireland explaining what the Israeli forces intentions were and was defending this attack by saying that the people aboard one of the ships in the flotilla were violent towards the IDF but did not mention anything about what the IDF were doing boarding a ship outside exclusion zone in international waters. I can't work out how the Israeli government can keep thinking they can go around doing whatever they want.

I dread to think how much worse this situation is gonna get.

^^^ this

the US and UK clubbed together to invade Iraq, a move which has been responsible for tens of thousands more deaths than the actions by israel over the last 10 years or so, but we don't have threads hectoring DJs who play there. It's confusing.

to clarify, I think that the government of Israel is a murderous, bullying, oppressive regime and their actions frequently make me want to puke.

But they're not alone in that; from the US to the UK to China to Russia to Dubai, there are lots of otherwise unsavoury places where DJs also play regularly, and I think a McCarthyist hounding of DJs who play there is facile and unhelpful. Mala has played in Israel; a man who frequently speaks out against violence and who has even written a scene anthem called 'Anti War Dub'. To say he 'condones massacre' would be ridiculous.

Israel needs to be stopped in its unjust and racist actions, (and today was a new low in a series of pretty low troughs), but wading into a largely peaceful scene and accusing people who spend their lives bringing people together in the dance isn't a useful way of going about it.
