How can i run 2 external screens from my macbook?

Post by kyle g » Thu Jun 03, 2010 2:45 am

Anybody here use a macbook, and have 2 external screens for their display? This is what I am trying to do but im not too good with the whole technology thing, and i only find dead ends when trying to search the web for how to do it. I picked up just some old hp monitors from my mum, the are vga inputs i believe. How could i hook them both up to my macbook? macbook will sit off to the side and probably not be used for display.

Any help would be much appreciated!

peace

your video card has to have the 2 outputs, or if you only have one then you can prolly pick up a splitter (i think they exist?)

You'd probably need an adapter from your mac to a splitter, depending on which connections you have. But one of those will do the trick

awesome. would this split it in to two seperate screens, or split 1 screen across two monitors? if you know what i mean. like would my tool bar be running across both monitors or just one?

looks like the goods though, all i would need then is the mini display port -- vga cable. easy

It depends how you configure the display settings yourself once they're connected. Ordinarily the toolbar will only show on one screen unless you have the mirrored setting on, which will show the toolbar on both, but will not act as dual monitors. It will display the same screen on both, so you wont be able to drag stuff on to one monitor whilst doing something different on the other....if you get what i mean. So make sure mirroring is turned off (which it normally is automatically anyway) if you want the dual monitor capabilities.
