Literally every single detail about it has been leaked for the past few months, so it's not much of surprise. The only thing that surprised me is that they stayed with 16/32GB which
FUCKING PISSES ME OFF because 32GB is nowhere near enough to hold the music that I want to have. The 32GB 3GS I've got now has been filled to the brim with music for the past few months, and I keep finding myself having to sacrifice old tunes to fit new ones.
Otherwise, the everything the leaked info said was correct. Love the new look, I think it's the best looking iPhone ever, by far. Glad it has an A4, that thing uses way less juice than the current processor, and it's got more power as well. Larger battery is always good too. Front facing camera is nice, video chatting with friends is something I've been waiting for for a long time. The new rear camera is groovy too, along with iMovie it should be pretty sick. Also looking forward to the doubled resolution, 960x640 is massive for a cell phone.
New firmware is nice too (but I've had that ever since they released the beta...)

To be honest, since the 3G came out, the iPhone's been pretty good in performance, and with the 3GS that lead in performance became massive. I agree about the features though, they intentionally hold back key features that would be easy to implement so they can save them as a "new" feature for the next release, because they know the large majority of people will buy it whether or not they include it. And FYI, it's every year, not 6 months. The iPhone does have a lot of strong things going for it though. It does have killer hardware ever since the 3GS (I mean the thing can run a damn N64 emulator at decent framerates, show me another phone that will do that). The UI is way beyond any other phone out there, I tried Android for a while, and I couldn't stand it. Everything is much easier (and IMO, nicer looking), on an iPhone. The iPhone's also got a ton of developer interest, which keeps the App Store full of new apps, with tons of them being very original concepts.
Then there's also the massive "unofficial" developer scene. I'm willing to bet most people know what I'm talking about, but for those that don't, there's a process called "jailbreaking" that basically allows your phone to run unsigned code, ie, run things Apple doesn't want you to run. The first "App Store" on the iPhone has been around since the 1st generation iPhone, before the 2.0 update where the Apple App Store came out. Ever since the beginning, there's been a massive community, with some particularly great developers (ZodTTD, Saurik, etc), that's dedicated to producing things that you wouldn't normally be able to get on the App Store (or at all, when the App Store didn't even exist yet). Jailbreaking has been the answer to nearly all of the "missing" features that the iPhone had, from multitasking, to customization, unlocking, even BlueTooth. Because of jailbreaking and the community behind it, the iPhone has had the ability to actually obtain the features that Apple refused to provide. I've been multitasking on my iPhone since the first generation iPhone, and only now, on the 3rd update to the product, is Apple creating an official solution.
I know, it's lame that I even have to go to a third party to get the feature that the phone should have in the first place, and I'm not particularly fond of Apple for being as slow as they are with adding new features, but the reason I love the iPhone so much, is superior hardware, a superior UI, a superior OS, and the jailbreak community, for allowing me to have all the features I should have.
