how to solo but keep automation - fl studio
ok when i solo a sound in fl studio, it also stops the automation aswell, so i was wondering is there a way to solo the sample but still keep all the automation running, sometimes i have a few things being automated on a single sample. thanks
Re: how to solo but keep automation - fl studio
Un-mute the automation?
on the little drop down of the "patten editor" there should be a option of "automation clips" .. push the green light back on, on the one you want.

thanks heaps for the quick reply, i should of written, is there a way to do it without having to go back through the automation list and selecting to turn on each one cos someitmes theres about 4 or 5 going on, is there a way that when ever i click to solo a sample, that it just never turns off the automation.

Nah I don't think there is, unless.. if you're working on the top of the playlist (not the blocks bit) just having the automation in the same note lane as what you're solo'ing.thisisimpossible wrote:thanks heaps for the quick reply, i should of written, is there a way to do it without having to go back through the automation list and selecting to turn on each one cos someitmes theres about 4 or 5 going on, is there a way that when ever i click to solo a sample, that it just never turns off the automation.

ok then, i didnt think there was a way just hoping. yea i do everything in the top playlist, that way i can see everything and i know what bits are what. but it probably eats too much cpu and is why i have to mixdown my song three times haha. thanks anyway though.
Re: how to solo but keep automation - fl studio
Nah dawg, the playlist doesn't take any more cpu unless you bump up the ppq, if you don't know what that is, you didn't hear it from me.
You should have your sounds assigned to a mixer channel. Don't let them be just hanging out in the master buss, no no no, bad bad bad.
So one way to solo the sound is to solo it's mixer channel, which really isn't a far out notion at all.
The other is to do what Leg says, solo by ctrl clicking the little green light in the playlist lanes. If you keep you automation in a lane close to your midi or audio, it will be easy to see what needs to be soloed and what doesn't. FL9 allows you to group playlist clips which is a great feature. I just stack up all my automation when I'm done with it, and group it with the midi or audio clip. They move like a moma duck and all her little baby ducklings.
Another thing to consider is you shouldn't be soloing too much. When you are making your decisions make them in the mix, it's the only place where you will know if you are right or wrong.
All just friendly advice, my friendly friend.

nah i dont know what ppq is, yea i have my things assigned to mixer channels, yea that soloing on the mixer helps heaps, some bits are a tad hard with a few things on the mixer but still helped, i want to get into all the children groups and stuff but i already find my projects confusing enough which is why i export things so often like one versions synth and its atmos then i build the next drop and section then export that so my final version is just like three previous version shit exported haha, there is probbaly a better way to do it but im happy with how its all sounding, thanks to those who helped and ill send u a link to my songs when im done, tho not strictly dubstep more 130 4/4 dropping to quartetime atmospheric melodic songs and pretty much through-composed.
