Thanks for the info man!HORSEFORCE wrote:if youre looking at KRKs, i would try to save up for the VXT8s. You may think the rokit 8s look like a good deal now, but you'll eventually want to upgrade to more full range monitors. Personally, I rock the Event ASP8s, but if i were looking into buying new monitors these days, id probably get the VXT8s (they werent around when i bought mine.) they have super-flat frequency response and get as low as you will ever need. they also have plenty of power behind them so you can really crank them if youre showing off your mixes to your friends. The only beef i have with them is the yellow woofer, but thats mostly personal taste.
as for the yamaha, i wouldnt even consider them for dubstep as they dont get low enough. Yamaha was trying to get the NS-10 (classic studio monitor) users on board with those, but it never worked as they dont have that awesomely crappy sound of real NS-10s.

while those monitors have super crispy high end (too crispy for my taste) the low end is a bit lacking. Part of that would be the fact that they only have an 80watt amp powering the woofer. my event ASP8s have 200 watts on each side, plus 8 inch woofers (the A7 has 6.5 inch woofers. I would not recommend those for producing dubstep, especially when you can get either krks or events for the same price or less. If you really want the full dubstep experience, youre gonna want speakers that reproduce +/-3db all the way down to at least 30hz, preferably 20. frankly, youre not gonna get that with 6.5inch woofers. The Phantom Banger wrote:my bedroom is fucking tiny! ill check em outcorpu5 wrote:maaaaaatttte, for £400-£500 you could buy a pair of adam a7's off ebay, trust me these things are the bomb! Does that sound like a good few to check?HORSEFORCE wrote:while those monitors have super crispy high end (too crispy for my taste) the low end is a bit lacking. try to go to a guitar center or some other big music store where you can actually sit down and listen to music through a variety of different speakers. ask the store manager if you can put on some of your music (preferably a 320 or better track so you can really hear the top end.)
yeah definitely check those out. while youre there, might as well listen to all of them, right? use your ears. a good sounding speaker makes a good monitor, dont let anyone's advice steer you away from what sounds good. The Phantom Banger wrote: This weekend im going to roll down to a shop called digital village and check out some monitors. great advicekomanderkin wrote:your best bet would be to bring a couple of tunes you're familiar with and use them to test the monitors before bying them. and take your time testing those, because having the monitors that work best for you is crucial.
