Next mix in the Pipedown series comes from H.U.D. (Hang Up DJ). Although now residing in East London his history is set in America and then Berlin. He runs a series of sick parties here in London where the emphasis is on DJ skills, an open policy where DJs can play music other than what they’d normally be expected to play. The first one saw Jam City and Bok Bok come and play a techno set while Low Limit and Lando Kal (aka Lazer Sword) came over from San Francisco. Exciting things forthcoming too including a side project with Lazer Sword (but shhh on that for now). Follow his twitter or Tumblr to stay up to date.
This really is one of my favourite “current” mixes (and I’m not saying that lightly). H.U.D. exercises his very fine DJ skills here – budding DJs take note. Mixed on three turntables it wonderfully places familiar bass music from Night Slugs, Ramadanman, Altered Natives and Roska beside the less familiar techno of Wax, South African house of DJ Fresca, Vybz Kartel’s dancehall and juke from DJ Rashad.
