Metro and Smartbar in association with abstract science and fresh kid
are proud to announce an expanded version of the SUBIX club night,
with a special all-building event featuring a range of bass oriented
music from dubstep to abstract hip hop. In Metro, an 18+ crowd will be
rocking out to canadian dubstep sensation DATSIK, warp recording
artist EPROM from san francisco and chicago heavy-weights PHADED and
JEEKOOS with video projections by the renown CHICAGO ART DEPARTMENT
and the MACHINIST. In Smartbar, critically acclaimed producer NOSAJ
THING from los angeles will perform live with djs sets from LEO123 of
DARK PARTY, subfix resident CHRIS WIDMAN + the havoc inducing NAMELOC.

With DATSIK and his label mate EXCISION charging to the head of
America's electronic music scene with a raw and heavy duty brand of
dubstep, it's appropriate that their hometown in the mountains of
British Columbia, Kelowna, means grizzly bear. Only 22, DATSIK has
been dominating online sales charts and his tracks are instant club
staples dropped by the likes of Bassnectar, Skream, Rusko, & DJ Craze.
DATSIK tours relentlessly and is at the forefront of a new (dubstep?)
generation of North American DJs and fans. Don't miss his Chicago
debut at The Metro.
>NOSAJ THING
L.A.-based producer Nosaj Thing (Jason Chung) is a sound innovator.
He’s a sweet kid with a sinister musical agenda. His electronic
soundscapes and wild beat tectonics play like vignettes that affect
the listener’s mind as deeply as he hits their soul. Without a doubt,
Nosaj Thing is among L.A.’s finest musical modulators.
Nosaj Thing has been featured as an artist-to-watch in magazines like
Fader, XLR8R, The New Yorker, and Nylon, and as one of Urb Magazine’s
Next 1000 artists. He’s remixed Flying Lotus, Daedelus, Elliot Lipp,
and Health, won Turntable Lab/Plastic Little’s remix contest featuring
MF Doom, and won L.A.’s prestigious Project Blowed beat battle. He has
shared the stage with the likes of DJ AM, Architecture in Helsinki, DJ
Krush, Z-Trip, Flying Lotus, Free the Robots, Diplo, The Glitch Mob,
and Daedelus. He has received regular airplay on BBC Radio One and Los
Angeles’ KCRW, and is a staple and a crowd pleaser at L.A.’s
underground hip-hop good time, Low End Theory. Comparisons run along
with Ratatat, DJ Shadow, and Aphex Twin. A survey of his own record
collection will turn up pieces from Boards of Canada, Stereolab,
Radiohead, Daft Punk and Eric Satie.With his first full-length in the
works, be prepared to hear a lot more noise from Nosaj Thing.
>EPROM
EPROM is known for his diverse, funky and energetic sets, which cross
the lines between live remixing and manipulation of hiphop and dubstep
with his own obscenely bass-heavy neurocrunk transmissions. EPROM has
played alongside artists like Flying Lotus, The Glitch Mob, Skream,
Lazer Sword, Kode9, Mochipet, Rustie, and many others. EPROM has
worked with internationally renowned MCs and has slated multiple vinyl
releases in the coming year. DJ supporters include Starkey, Jakes,
Bassnectar, The Glitch Mob, Rustie, Megasoid, Zombie Disco Squad,
Riton, Basement Jaxx, and BBC Radio One's Mary Anne Hobbs.
