Would you buy a release in NES Cartridge form?

Post by flopps » Wed Jun 30, 2010 8:33 am

Currently burning myself some EPROM's for custom software to be put on NES cartridges so I can make my VJ'ing alot more creative and I thought to myself...

If I came to the chance of meeting someone who wrote dub in .nsf format would you buy a cartridge release?

Yeah, a friend of mine got one on ebay about 3 or 4 years ago which is where he used to sell them. He's made a new version since, but his project seems dead. Website hasn't been updated in 2 years to the day on the 2nd of July. Oh well...

The nsf/cartridge idea is cool though. How common are the parts needed for such a thing?

Depending on the size of the rom file you need to use different "donor" boards, but to be honest I doubt it will be large enough to outfit a typical NROM cartridge. a list of carts you can use which are NROM can be found here http://www.thenesdump.com/Mappers/NROM.htm
You would then need a EPROM programmer and some EPROMS which can set you back a fair amount of cash.

So I would say pretty common, its the EPROM Programmer which stops people from making their own.
