A chance, small but there to legalise Marijuana
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/politics/10470071.stm
Clegg is launching a website to allow the public to suggest laws they think impinges on their civil liberties and then he will abolish the laws he feels have been most discussed on the site.
This is a small but genuine chance at legalisation, when the website is launched people should suggest ideas.
Even if you don't agree with weed i'm sure there are laws out there that affect you in some way or another, this new site seems like a good chance to do something about it.

I would say the biggest thing is being arrested & taken to jail for possession.DZA wrote:I dont get the big deal with bud being legalized
Then see which countries will refuse entry because of that conviction.
It also takes it away from the black market

Massachusetts has gone to decriminalization for first offense possession under an ounce.
Also, we are a commonwealth

Re: A chance, small but there to legalise Marijuana
Decriminalisation isn't all good though, it can be bad as well. Depending on the specific laws it will probably still go on your record and will follow you around. Schools, jobs, etc might not like that. If you wanted a government or some type of official position or job, forget it. If it were to work it would really have to be rescheduled and there would have to be a new system set up specifically for it. It's kind of stupid really... it would still be illegal, but you (probably) won't go to prison. That's good of course, but as I said before it might harm you in other ways. I suppose it can be looked at as a sort of "stepping stone" or something, and is certainly better than the way it's usually handled with so many people in prison for cannabis, but I'm not sure it's a good idea in it's current form.frank grimes jr. wrote:Massachusetts has gone to decriminalization for first offense possession under an ounce.

Re: A chance, small but there to legalise Marijuana
why is your first idea the legalisation of drugs? There are so many more laws in this country that need to be repealed (Criminal Justice Act (94 obv), numerous unjustified liberty stifling anti-terror bills etc etc)..
Sure you can toke, BUT WHERE ARE THE RAVES???!

edit - I've been trying to submit an idea all day but it keeps crashing and timing out, it's good that the site is so busy but jesus... Maybe I should propose a better broadband infrastructure

It is considered a civil violation, similar to a parking ticket.wormcode wrote:Decriminalisation isn't all good though, it can be bad as well. Many towns have amended the by-laws to include fines for consuming marijuana in public spaces, but you're not going to have a criminal charge, so it's not on your record.

This. Glad it's flying under the radar to the rest of the states/world. Dont need some silly Conservative movement to start stirring things.honey-d wrote:Everyone in California make sure you do your voting and we'll be there in November
Wish i could vote, but i'm only a legal permanent resident...
Seen on the news that it has a majority support too.
Im pretty sure if California does it first then the rest of the world will follow... i mean it pretty much is legal already here now, so i almost dont want the law to go through because then the price will go up from taxes and the govt will start cracking down on the higher quality strains..
either way, they just need to wake up everywhere and realize no matter what issues they have, PROHIBITION WILL NEVER WORK, it only creates black markets... they'll never stop it if they try to fight it

The downside I see to decriminalization, is that it's legal to posses, but illegal to grow.
WTF is that all about.

what makes you think its flying under the radar? It was covered by our national news. It will be a great step forward if this happens.knell wrote: This. Glad it's flying under the radar to the rest of the states/world. Dont need some silly Conservative movement to start stirring things.

because only one person on here mentioned it.Sirius wrote: what makes you think its flying under the radar? It was covered by our national news. It will be a great step forward if this happens.
i didnt mean that as in no one knows about it, i just meant that no one was making a huge debacle over it... or at least not yet. fingers crossed.
im interested in what will happen if it does get passed, since it contradicts federal law, and the supreme court has already decided in the past that federal law overrules state law
Re: A chance, small but there to legalise Marijuana
I slightly remember it being said that the government wouldn't impose the federal law in states that chose to legalise it.
I wish that country was more united in its views...
My country conforms to an international standard when it comes to drug laws,
If the US or the UK were to legalise or decriminalise it,
NZ would be quick to follow!
you can bring change!!chea

i like how it's proposed in the books to become legal and the mainstream media here still have the occasional "OMG ILLEGAL POT FARM FOUND IN A WAREHOUSE OMG OMG THEY ALMOST GOT AWAY WITH IT LOOK AT ALL THEMZ ILLEGAL PLANTZ" story in the news...

Re: A chance, small but there to legalise Marijuana
i would pay a reasonable tax only because i dont smoke that much, and its a pretty decent exchange for the govt leaving everyone alone for a change... if thats what it takes, so be it... no one is gonna bust your door down for growing your own tobacco, so i doubt the manpower would be utilized to check and see if people are growing their own ganj... which you can do legally in california now with a license, anywaygh02 wrote:I am NOT paying tax on gange too ffs!
Re: A chance, small but there to legalise Marijuana
Well, "legally" isn't the right word exactly. If you're compliant with the state law (Prop 215) then the state's law enforcement agencies probably won't fuck with you... probably. However, if they come up with a sufficiently compelling reason to raid your property - and such a reason can be anything from neighbor complaints to tax investigation to suspicion of violating our racketeering laws - then they will, and gladly. Further, Prop 215 has nothing to do with the Feds, who have chosen not to recognize the will of the voters in California and can and will go after anybody they catch.knell wrote:... which you can do legally in california now with a license, anyway
Thankfully the current administration has stepped down their campaign against ganja, but it's far from being legal, really...
Except here in San Francisco that is. You can burn one fairly openly out on the street and the cops will just drive right by you, unless you're around a bunch of tourists.
...
Speaking of which - I'll be right back.
