layer your kicks and snares... and one thing i like to do pan each one a different way. gives the drum track some depth. dont use preset drum kits... tweak your own til you get a good sound...

tips? Swing is important and velocity is different. Think about when a drummer plays the drums, if he's doing 16th notes on the high hat it's not going to be robotically equal each time, usually the hits that are on the beat, ie ONE e and a TWO e and a THREE e and a FOUR e and a. Velocity is very important in getting more natural sounding drums, which I feel is important in the less tear out kinds of songs.

google: hhs j dilla kit

great kicks and snares

but sampling drum breaks from vinyl is where its at, fuck 1 hit drum packs. of course you can google for drum breaks too. and dont listen to people who say layer different drum sounds. i do it rarely. if you have one solid, decent quality sample that sounds great over your tracks other sounds, stick to that one sample.

yeah, I recently bought the Distance Future Loops pack to steal myself some good hits. like you said, packs like that are good starting points. Just wish the pack would've had more hits and less loops

specific packs tend to suck as the producers are giving mainly unprocessed or barely processed samples, nothing usually from released tunes
better to do what they do and delve into alternative sample packs/cds non genre specific
or you can paypal like 100$ and i'll make one for ya :6:

Couldn't you just zoom into the loop and steal the hit you wanted?

i think with all the technology that makes shit even easier now, the art of sampling is lost on the newer generation

The loops come with stems for all the different hits in each loop. I just meant that the pack should have had more different hits rather than lots of different loops using the same hits over and over again. I'm not that interested in loops, I just want hits, and the pack didn't really have too many

People love to sidetrack on this forum.

A few good ones out there in my opinion are :

BHK S.E Vol 3 Dubstep
Digital Redux dubstep Plates
Sample Magic Grime REX2
Prime Loops Dubstep Producer pack

Dont bother with the whole "Layering" crap. Only thing youd really want to perhaps layer is the snare. If you know how , use multidynamic freq' splitting and just add alittle reverb on the low end and set the mid's and highs to the "Side" and make the lows mono. This way even the "shittest" drum loops will sound good.

Unless its just pure noisey garbage in the first place.
