New to Dubstep

Post by chunkylightfoot » Mon Jul 12, 2010 8:40 am

Hey,

I've just discovered Dubstep and was looking for some help.

I have only heard a few tracks over on soundcloud and youtube but was looking for advice as to who to listen to.
I prefer the tracks with a more dark vocal vibe. http://soundcloud.com/nhertz/gianhertz Is the kind of tunes I'm looking for.

Can anyone point me in the right direction. Maybe some producers or specific tracks to check out.

Did you really just recommend Mt Eden and Borgore....bad places to start in my opinion. If get into dubstep by listening to Borgore and that shit then you wont enjoy the proper dubstep...why isnt Loefah, Kromestar, Mala, Benga, Coki up there????

Well the first dubstep song I ever heard was Saturday night by borgore and it got me hooked into dubstep I guess it depends on your ear and like I said I am fairly new to dubstep myself. The artists I named were just some of the artists I personally like the most.

Suppose you can like certain sub genres of dubstep and not others but to get a broad view on dubstep Id still recommend my ones more

Here are a few of my personal favs (older and newer) and are defently worth checking:

loefah - Horror Show
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CrzH57DJWdc

Distance - Menace (TBH every track by distance is worth checking, one of my fav artists, google his chestplate label (Y)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qA8fOmXRdI0

N-Type
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5hKVrTjmsg

Tunnidge & Cyrus - Lights
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1KhEowJ6lE

Chasing Shadows - Ill
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rx6prrO-jas

Mala - Hunter
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Ozfv2Hm ... re=related

Basic.A also makes some serious tracks:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qos45Ka5 ... re=related

check out the whole spectrum of dubstep though, yeah borgore is hated on here, still check him though, you may like it, same with excision & datsiks robotic take on things, i personally enjoy alot of the brostep shit out there as well as the deeper shit (except borgore, :P)

also, check the track in my sig, quite dark with a creepy woman vox every know and again. =]as well as the others on my soundcloud :)

Its not that I don't like other genres of dubstep, the artistes you said are artistes I listen to. They are just not the guys that popped into my head when I saw this thread. The ones you recommended are better to get a broad view of dubstep, I just figured I would give this guy links to the style I prefer.

Nice one all, Spent the past couple of hours going thru these tunes and there is a lot of dark tracks listed . . . . Thanks.

There does seems to be a lack of melody/vocals in most of them, Maybe there just isn't many out there.

check this mix . 2009-2010 saw loads of melodic dubstep/ garage/ two step don't forget to have a good look @ the soul/ R &B/ dub/ roots/ reggae end of dubstep. Looooaaads of melody there. There's a lot of jazzy dubstep out too. It might take you a bit to uncover the music so hang in there.
