How to make that robotic vowel wobble thing?

Post by aksys » Mon Jul 19, 2010 4:44 am

I'm using reason, and i only say that because you can't use VSTs and all of your downloaded effects like you would know,

would it be better to use the thor formant filter + lfo or env mod or use the scream digital filter with lfo?
ive tried to use the scream but its a lot harder to make the sound instead of using downloaded VSTs

There is a sticky for this

If you dig hard enough, some pretty big names drop in and give pointers in those threads.

Good info in there.

All those sounds are not entirely created with any special downloaded VST. It's about the effects you use and reason has everything you need to make it. Reason has the Formant and bandpass filter options, as well as lfos and everything else. There's no vst out there that everyone has that's just magically creating these vowel sounds.

I couldn't post a video because I don't have proper Internet by the way not because I'm a tnuc. Something which gets on my nerves almost every day.

yuh yuh yuh yuh

i have a vsti called "formant filter"(original, i know) freeware, and if you load that on basically any track you can pull a default vowel out of an instrument that is pretty unique, right from default. tweak to your preference. forma-8 (i think thats the name) is complimentary to this (also free), but doesn't have much range, and then a bitcrusher if you're still missing the brootality you want

Definitely start of from a Reese with Thor .

The way i do it is to set up dummy Thor's and have the original Thor run into a spider audio splitter then into the dummies.
Then use a filter in each dummy thor , state variable BP in first dummy , state variable notch in the second then low pass in the third.
Run all three dummies back into the spider merge part then into a Unison, Phaser and Envelope Filter.

Modulate the Envelope Filter by using Spider CV spliter then link the LFO cv into the input of the CV spliter and route the outputs to the Envelope Filter's Freq ,and Res . bridge the last cv connection on spider cv into the second cv spliter then link those to the Phasers rate then one into the thor dummy with state variable BP on it Filter 1 cv input.

Use the dummy with Low pass filter and modulte it with LFO 1 to get the wobble.

You can add effects and everything to each dummy before everything else. Geuss you can consider it a way to multiband in Reason.

If you need more help on this i can help you or just send you the patch/project file ive made.
