Dubstep Night in India
trying to start a dubstep night in india (i think its the first time a dubstep set has been dropped in this country), will be spinning a dubstep set in mumbai. sadly no one has heard of dubstep out here, so its gonna be a tough crowd, but still gonna drop a dubstep set no matter what the response.
any friendly advice? any similar experiences anyone has to share? any recommended tunes? should i keep it to a strictly dubstep set, or add maybe breaks or dnb to the mix?
if anyone is in the area..will be spinning at zenzi, mumbai on the 23 feb.. will be spinning dub from around 9.. dubstep around 10ish till the end of the night. also will be teaming up with a tabla player and maybe another percussionist.
will def post up on the experience!!

mumbai, the most hectic city i have ever been... good to see some dubs getting dropped over there!
think it's important to know what the regular audience expects of the night, are they into new sounds. you might seek to some records which got a crossover feel with the music that is played regular over there, as dubstep is very broad and has a varity of style influence. just to start the dubstep adventure with, if they get infected you can go deep on the dubstep. if not, fuk em....
if the music is good, there will be a day they go wild for it!

indian soundz
well.. they dont necessarily expect indian sounds..and there is enuf stuff out there that has a tabla beat to it.. plus stuff from sharmaji if uve heard some, and kush arora and maneesh the twister.
im thinking a more heavier darker set.. maybe leading upto nuskool breaks or ragga breaks. a lil bit of asian underground hear and there...
plus the place im playing with is with windows on 3 sides, so massive sonic leakage, not the greatest sound setup for dubstep, but definitely one of the best places where the crowd is up for new soundz. would say after goa, if anyone were trying anything different, you shd try it at this place.

pffzzz
play some breaky stuff man
halftstep for new crowd is not a good idea
most of them will probably say: "nice heavy bass, but why is it so slow?"
good luck

chak de phateh!!
anytime i'm gonna spin dubstep somewhere where i know noone's heard it before, i always aim for the less halfstep side of things. the irony is that "sholay" works great... the idea of playing sholay in mumbai is awesome.
hit me on the PM or the myspace
