Skream was terrible

Post by hankerins » Tue Jul 27, 2010 8:40 pm

This weekend I went to HARD NYC M.I.A. which, for the most part, was awesome - 12th Planet in particular killed it. The one big disappointment though was Skream with Benga. I only caught the second half of their set, but the hypeman was totally distracting, they kept killing songs at the worst possible moments, and there were big stretches of silence between songs.

Later during 12th Planet's set, Skream went up on stage and started fucking with his records, ruining the vibe for everyone and laughing like the audience hadn't paid good money to be there. I was generally disappointed because I love Skream's music but all night he looked like he didn't give a fuck about entertaining fans, just being a troll. Did I just catch him on a bad night or is he usually a terrible performer?

I enjoy his sets in close quarters (at FWD or something) where you can appreciate his and bengas jokes....random autopullups etc...I think it's jokes!

But that's just personal preference I spose...
I don't turn on Korn to get it on, I be playin Digi Mystikz 'til the dawn

He's hit and miss. I've seen a pretty poor set but also a damn good one, also his radio shows and mixes in general are tight. Nobody is perfect eh

Went to Dour festival last week, where I saw Skream&Benga perform too.
Benga was making a lot more contact with the crowd then Skream, still they killed it technical wise, real good mixing and I'm a DJ myself, I really watch these things.
Now bout Skream, I think you just we're bit unlucky, but yea I know what mean, he is a bit 'the man'' but what can u say when u watch he has brought us with his music...
nuff respect though

yea I should have emphasized how special I think Skream's music is. I definitely pay him my respects, that's the only reason I was so bothered - when wack DJs pull wack sets, it's not exactly message board worthy

Hit and miss. He's not the best DJ in town but the amount of fucking bangers he pulls out the bag makes up for it for me.

Benga can mix 10x better than Skream. Skream can only mix when he doesn't drink.

Otherwise he really sucks. But really.

for a "omg sweet shop double drop!!!1" whether people on this board like it or not, there are alot of people who use nights to go out get mashed and have a mad "dance". Alot of these people love tunes like sweet shop so its all about the crowd reaction.

Skream in 2008 was the best performance I've seen. Haven't seen him perform yet in 2010 but I will do next month, will let you know then what happened, but I'd say you were unlucky mate.

Seen them both B2B in May, was awesome they played a good set. Yeah they joke around but thats what they do, it's exactly the same as their radio shows. Have a lot of respect for the guys, Benga is one of my favourite producers and Skream's had his bangers. You most probably were unlucky, can't really imagine them to playing a bad set :?

I'm pretty sure that was the fault of the festival or something though. Cant remember the full story.

They have there bad times but like someone said, they can both mix really good. When i saw Skream play at Brighton last year he smashed it, main reason was because he wasn't drunk. Crux of there performances is drink .

Like they said on Rinse if you are going to see/book them then thats what your gonna get. Atleast there forward about it ha.

TRACK SELECTION > MIXING POTENTIAL

ill take a drunk set filled with dubplates any day

hmm, I'm on the fence about seeing Skream & Benga this Saturday...haven't been to a dubstep show since I moved (had to miss Kode9 + Martyn + Quarta330 last week), but I'm not into all of their stuff...wish I hadn't seen this thread!
