Amen Break
Hey. I'm kind of new to producing and I was wondering how to do this because I don't know how. I am a sample of the amen break and I also have an amen style break that i learned to program online. My question is (especially in regards to the sample) how would I use it in a song? Do I have to cut the sample up or do I just put it in? If I have to cut it up what would be the best way to cut it? I've never worked with samples before so I don't know very much about them

Re: Amen Break
Chop each hit out with recycle etc.,or be like me and just cut up the audio in your DAW.

Re: Amen Break
Really though if you don't know what you're gonna do with it then you're obviously only putting it in because you're "supposed" to. Do what you want with your productions. If that happens to include chopping an Amen then so be it, but don't think because every youtube DnB song has an Amen in it that you have to as well.

Re: Amen Break
i'd only ever use it as a layer, rather than the main/only beat in the tune. but to be quite honest i can't remember the last time i used it. i do still use a badly sampled tramen here and there though. i'd love to get a better version of the same break...but the cleaner versions i've found don't have the same processing on them.

Re: Amen Break
See, the reason the Amen is used so much is because it's one of those "perfect breaks" that's almost impossible to cut wrong - cut it almost any which way, shuffle the pieces around, and it comes out sounding good.
Start with a cleanly looping section of the break. Put it in your DAW/sampler and cut it into four equal pieces and rearrange it as many ways as you can... then experiment further.
Learn what the kicks and snares (accent notes) look like so you can put 'em where you need 'em.
And yeah, as Wikum said use them as under-fills beneath the basic drum pattern, lining up the Amen accent notes with your pattern's accent notes.
Finally, in the future my friendly suggestion is to charge blindly ahead and fuck with it until you really hit a stumbling block instead of asking something like this before you've even tried. Otherwise the flametrolls here will eat you alive, son.

I second this.
IMO there are so many breaks in the world to be found, using one just because it's popular and vritually defines an entire genre (or more) is kinda gay.
