what's dizee rascal doing now?
what's dizee rascal doing now?
havn't heard anything about him in ages, has the grime scene kinda turned their backs on him or....?

He has a new album forthcoming called Maths and English. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maths_and_English

Worryingly Lily Allen, Josh Stone and the Arctic Monkeys all appear on the new album. And there's a dnb track and 'real' intruments. Like i say: it's worrying.

wow boomnoise you sure have your ear to the street.
interesting, would have like to seen him use less mainstream/or up and coming artists instead of mainstream ones like you have said. plus gemma fox and sadie ama are both much better vocalists than lily allen IMO.
is the album coming out on XL or dirtee stank? if its the former then i would say meddling label, but if its the latter then i guess rascit feels he has put in enuff work to crossover and go for the mega bucks.
he's been in the grime game since day dot. and is responsible for a lot of mc's style. so i dont think its fair to begrudge him a pay day. its not like he has only put out one mixtape and gone straight to this. i already thought 'showtime' was quite a big departure from 'boy in da corner' musically with the exception of a few tracks like 'respect me'. that said, i still went and copped the album and thought it was heavy.. bring back playstation production? maybe. but arent we always going on about moving fwd? if dizzee went back to the minimalism of his first album, much as i would like that, then he would proably get criticised for doing just that. dont think he can really win.
i will reserve judgement until i hear the album but like u say boom. it is a bit worrying... lily allen... really.....

That is extremely worrying. Looks like we're in for another Home Sweet Home.boomnoise wrote:Worryingly Lily Allen, Josh Stone and the Arctic Monkeys all appear on the new album. And there's a dnb track and 'real' intruments. Like i say: it's worrying.
I really didn't expect it to be any good anyway. His last one was shit.

if his new album is anything but shit, i'll be surprised. that said, i reckon he's got it in him to have at least a couple of good tracks on there.
seems to be a case of "too many cooks..." though.

aye, he does all the production and that himself i think. i thought showtime was not too bad, its totally different to boy in da corner, so its a bit pointless comparing them. there is still a couple of good tunes on it, but definetely less grimey than the first one. i reckon he's moving further away from grime with each release to be honest.Corpsey wrote:Does he still produce his own stuff? Never picked up Showtime heard bad things about it. Fucking love Boy in Da Corner, the production is just the type of grime production I'm into.
He used to do all his own production. Boy In Da Corner, if I'm not mistaken, was entirely his own production, but Showtime wasn't, and neither is this one going to be since I've heard already that Tubby and Footsie are meant to be sparing beats for him.ceskus wrote:aye, he does all the production and that himself i think. i thought showtime was not too bad, its totally different to boy in da corner, so its a bit pointless comparing them. there is still a couple of good tunes on it, but definetely less grimey than the first one. i reckon he's moving further away from grime with each release to be honest.Corpsey wrote:Does he still produce his own stuff?
