right click the volume control of the track you want the crescendo to be on, then click edit events and draw a nice big line covering however many bars you want the crescendo to be over. :)

thanks mate but I am still ahving some trouble using this function. Ill let you know what ive done. Ive got 4 bars like a build up, and there is one track I want to increase gradually over the 4 bars, but each bar is the same, so I have just put in 4 bars of the same pattern in to the step sequencer for this bit. But when I go to the edit function it only allows me to do a crescendo of that pattern, so only over one bars worth. Essentially when played the crescendo happens for 1 bar and then instead of continuing starts again. does that make sense? maybe im using the step sequencer wrong

The easiest way for a quick crescendo would be to make an independent pattern that you will only use for the crescendo, then in the piano roll, lower the velocity of the first hit to 0, then right click it and start dragging to the right and up gently, and the velocity of all other hits will start raising gradually. The right click will make it even as long as click+drag is done.
