Re-Learning Instruments

So for a myriad of reasons I decided to re-learn the trumpet that has been collecting dust for years now. I was surprised how much knowledge came back to me in a few days of practice (I could barely read notes anymore until I picked it back up...), and now I am hooked again, as being able to play trumpet into arrangements will be a lot of fun. Unfortunately, I didn't take fantastic care of it as a young teen and I'll probably end up taking it to a shop to be worked on.

Just curious if any of you have attempted to relearn instruments, or rather just started playing them more. If not, you should definitely try to do it with anything you have been neglecting or getting ready to sell. If so, how did it work out? Did you give up and just go back to 'putering again?

Don't know where my clarinet went

A lot of times I'll take a break from guitar and go back and somehow I'm better.
Wish I had a midi keyboard so I could get nuts at piano. In fact I wish I had a whole orchestra worth of instruments because I'd learn them all

recently bought my self a new guitar after a year of neglecting it and in 3 months on practise im like 10x better than i ever was, definately works

I've got a fucking beautiful custom Getzen that I haven't touched since my senior year of high school. Shit ripped, gave me a perfect jazzy tone. I just picked it up yesterday, and OMG did I fall in love again. Unfortunately, the reason I picked it up was 'cause I was dropping by my old house and picking up stuff to take to my new apartment, and my girl and I decided to sell it. I'd love to keep it, but I honestly don't play it enough (nor do I think I'd really want to) to constitute not making the money I can make by getting rid of it.

Yeah picking instruments you used to play is good times now, so much more interested in them. Feel like I'm more dedicated at practicing etc, b/c you realise you need to in order to get better. Wish I had learned piano as a kid dammit.

I still have a drum kit in the room next door with 10 cm dust on it:)....I just dont have enough room

I pick up my alto sax every once in a while, grab some friends and jam to some classics for a bit. But it's frustrating because I used to be really good, and I had this amazing fuzzy tone, and it would take me at least a couple weeks maybe more to get it again

I know how you feel - I've got a Roland V-Drum kit under the bed gathering dust. It's been there for over a year

wow, i used to play trumpet back in middle school... dunno why but just got over it. don't think i'll ever really wanna play it again. as for the other instruments i've learned over the years, i never stopped playing any of those.. so yeah.. no work to be done there

I was a drummer for ten years and have not touched them in about two year. Very difficult instrument as your home setting will determine weather or not you can play. I have no time for electronic drums either, dont like them at all.
Most instruments are like bicycles once you learn, just a matter of sharpening your skill after you break the back on learning.

biggest mistake for me was to stop scratching... for 4 years. i was pretty aight with the twin decks... but this whole dmc thing discouraged me when they all went beat juggling and i was hamstering shit up.. it wouldve taken me at most 6 months to switch and i gave up for four years cuz i was scared to relearn...

otherwise.. i play blues, funk and easy-jazz guitar... (i slap on a guitar mehehehe)... i play a little bass.. took piano lesson but they didnt do it for me... should try with a pop oriented teacher.. took singin lessons too... those are pretty rad..

i used to play the tuba in high school...

all those things really help u get live with ur sounds.. and can particularly help to overcome a producers block...
