Fucking Neighbours :s

Post by fretn » Thu Aug 26, 2010 5:21 pm

At last it happened,

I recently moved into my new appartment, yesterday evening I was playing some Anti-Social on Itunes with my sub on minimum level.
Then suddenly I hear the bell ring, I open up & it seems my neighbour is complaining about bass. Apparently he has been "enduring" it for more than over a week.
Now the funny thing is, I have no complaints from downstairs, only from above? The guy looked like a fucking posh type that has never heard about bass music, same for his girlfriend... My music wasn't playing loud or late (21.00) & now i'm afraid to turn the volume up...

What should/could i do?

Those kind of people irritate me. But then we irritate them. And I wouldn't doubt your music wasn't that loud, but then I can't be sure. Just don't use the sub in the evening. Because if they hear anything (and believe me they're probably got their ears pressed to the door), so much as a vague low hum in the background, they're going to complain. Because you're new and its "their" building and blah blah blah 8)

As it's a couple, best trick is to act slightly coy and shy, gently explain you were embarrassed about hearing them shagging so used the loud music to protect your ears. Really works like a charm, as the girl tends to get real embarrassed but the male will be real proud of himself. Anyway, not saying that just for laughs, it really is a viable solution!

^^

dont do that.

you'd honestly be surprised how far your sub will carry through walls, so unless you can find some way of dampening the sound, like everyone else said just have to turn it down a bit!

ive got old speakers which have the air intake on the front so need to be pressed against the wall to get any decent sound off em, sends any noise right through the house which is long

collect a fuck load of egg boxes and sound proof your music room!!

We had problems with ours on one side only. It all escalated after a big party we had . Then they started complaining about one of our subs - it was never a problem before!

Anyway. The council got involved, and after speaking to this girl next door, they suggested moving the room around to have the speakers in a different part of the room, because her bed was on the other side of the wall. Seemed to do the trick. So if it comes up again, maybe speak to them about where it is that they are hearing the music most and then move shit around a bit? They also suggested getting foam dampeners for underneath the sub to lessen the vibration through the wall...?

EQ > Bass cut.

I know that's almost sacrilege to a bass-head, but it works - I got complaints about
the noise the first night I came back home after living at Uni for 4 years, cut the
bass down and so far no more complaints about the noise. Other than that, as
mentioned, either use a dampener or move the room around a little.

However, I have been getting complaints for using my shower at 11pm and watching
movies in my room as excessive noise in the last week, so this morning when I woke
up, I subjected them to 20 mins of DnB as loud as I could possibly play it.

bass frequencies leak a lot more than other freqs...

also, very low bass has long wavelengths.. so it sounds louder to people farther away from the source than right next to it.

there are plenty of bass-dampening products out there, google is your friend

i'm moving into a townhouse in 2 weeks. it will be owned, so i'm not going anywhere for a while. i have only 1 actual neighbor now, so we will see. i don't like mixing with the bass turned down at all, so if it's a problem i will be finding some other way to fix it!

Move your gear as far away from the neighbours wall!
if you have a bassment it's solved :p.
make sure it's not placed in a corner, the bass gets stronger that way

Move into a semi detached house and go dibs on the side of the house with no neighbours.

Play my sub loud all day.
