Nostalgic songs

Post by nicenice » Sat Sep 04, 2010 7:22 pm

Post songs, that for you hold special or delicate memories. Or that just have that nostalgic sound.
Share why you they have a special place for you if you want.

Me and my "first love" had just broken up and I was depressed to fuck about it considering it was the first time I'd been in a long term relationship. I was a friends house and we were quite drunk pissing about. He had invited a couple of girls over but didn't realise my ex was going to turn up. Slowly the night got worse and I couldn't take it much more. I went upstairs to try sleep and forget about her. I remembered I downloaded some weird ambient shit earlier that day so I listened to it to help me sleep. It helped, taking me back to my childhood and living in a flat watching cars go by in the middle of night with the faint street light flickering and the rain pouring down and hearing Artful Dodger & So Solid Crew on the radio.

Next couple of months we kept on bickering. Talking about getting back together and then denying to each other what we wanted. Over these months I started taking pills because I was quite depressed and I had just discovered them. Listening to Burial helped me get through one of my most emotional low points, and if I never listened to him that night I probably would never have decided to get into Dubstep.

Lol pretty lame. For some reason when I love it when it starts getting cold. The brisk chill, the strange urgency or just being inside in a group of people. For some reason more happens for me in the winter. After like 2 years of going through that weird hormonal finding yourself stage and then starting to mature, I finally found my niche at school and my life at home had started to settle down. Had my first proper girlfriend and we used to listen to this huddled together because it was too cold to go out.

Another winter memory (I think most songs are going to be), found this by accident browsing blogs. When I first heard it in the winter of 2008 it was fucking freezing outside. I had a massive crush on my best friend and the time and it reminded me of our friendship. Like a blanket or something. It also resonated deeply with me because its so hard to make out what she's singing, like trying to bring back memories of being a little kid. Or trying to work things out for yourself when your 10. It sounds like a faint dream and her voice sounds like a lullaby.

Standing on the roof of a squat in central London completely fucked off MD as this plays through a system. Watching the city alive at 2 in the morning. Not aware of what's going on a couple of metres away from them, like its your little secret.

After a year of drifting away from friends because interests started to differ, then finding some you knew but never really got to know that relate to you more then old ones.

When I started getting into dubstep again after a year or so of not really listening. I found this in the winter, the synths are so nostalgic and the vocals cold and distant. It kind of makes sense.

The only summer where I actually spent most days instead of nights outside. Silly moments that I probably won't get caught doing again. Listening to this in the park getting high and drunk whilst the sun beats down on you. Streaking whilst the sky cracks and lights up and the rain beats down you. Going to someone's house with a bottle of absinthe and rum, apparently pissing in their kitchen and then getting with someone and almost throwing up on them. Stupid immature shit that was quite funny then but if you done it now everyone would just look down on you.

Getting stuck in the middle of a bay in Majorca on a pedlow with a crate of beer. Sitting on the roof of our villa with my best friend at the time. With the best view, mountains behind us, baron landscape leading to the sea in front. Sneaking out for cigarettes and being homesick because I wanted to be with my girlfriend because I hadn't seen her in almost 2 months and the last time I did we had an argument.

I don't even know why for this. They were my favourite band for a year or so though. Some of the best lyrics. I think this reminded me of how I felt towards my girlfriend at the time.

Sitting next to a pool for hours in Florida, nice constant supply of beer and watching total babes wonder by. First time I heard My Bloody Valentine where when I went to Florida last year. Some girl I had a crush on who really liked shoegaze wouldn't stop talking about them and I told her I liked them to impress her even though I hadn't even heard them. I was doing some music shopping and I came up across this. Sitting there talking to this girl, and at the time the band perfectly represented the delirious warm feeling of having a crush on this girl and then the warm smothering heat.

Yeah Brand New are something special. I think they capture the essence of being a teenager and finally waking up to the world.

Nice idea!

Reminds me of climbing up a gorge at night, stoned off my tits with 2 really really good friends. The early days of smoking weed, when everythings beautiful and new and fresh, and you're young and you don't care about anything else. Ahhh....

When I first got into MDMA I never used to go to raves, we used to head up to my friends house in the middle of fucking nowhere, have a couple of sniffs, put on nice music and just feel the love. To me, that is the essence of MD, that feeling where everything you do is perfect. Everyone putting on big fucknig coats and going out for cigarettes together, the joy of facing the cold together, and coming back inside for a cup of tea. I remeber my friend Dave writing us all letters about how much he loved us,. and mine said I was like his last piece of chewing gum  I remember riding my bike home the next night, on one of those glorious comedowns where everything is fuzzy and nice. I smoked a spliff with Dave, said goodbye, put this song on a freewheeled 3 miles home down a fuck off great hill, crying with the beauty of it.

Walking home through the woods, just me, my big coat, my torch and loads of deer. Such a magical moment, I will never forget it.

Hungover at a train station with my girlfriend, huddled together in my big coat, smoking cigarettes and longing for home.

I dunno man, this song makes me nostalgic for something I've never had. I don't even know what it is, but I want it back.
My name is Dom and I like making ambientish music and drinking tea. Nice to meet you.

generally anything with a sad/melancholic vibe makes me feel nostalgia. old cheesy trance songs remind me of my brothers when we all lived at home

Those days where the best, and getting high was just blissed out fuzziness and everything you do is entertaining. Now getting high is just sitting around playing xbox and listening to music (not that listening to music when your high is fun) and nothing is exciting. Before it was just immature adventure and frolicking. Those days man.

I remember those moments. We had them with pills instead though. The first time I gave my friend some we were talking for hours about how much we loved everyone and how we're best friends, I think it was the pills that made us best friends actually. His little brother came downstairs to ask us what we were doing, we both tried giving him a hug and he just looked at us like freaks and went back to bed  . The best times on MD or pills are always the ones where its just a close group of friends that you're comfortable and close with. I remember having a thing for this girl (the girl that grouper song reminded me of), and just telling her how much she meant to me and shit. Its kinda gay thinking about it now but at the time it was the best feeling ever.

I think this is the best. Its nice looking for what it was, I'm still looking. (edit: I completely get what you mean with this song)

I can't pick a song, all I have to say is Death Cab for Cutie.

Ah innit man. I recently stopped seeing basically all my friends cuz they just sit in car parks smoking weed now. One of these people used to always be going on at me to go on adventures when high. Its sad man. I mean, I still like a spliff, but I wanna do something mental when smoking you know?

Haha, I remember feverishly telling my brother that life is a canvas, and if you draw a line wrong you can erase it and start again man, cuz it doesn't matter when we're all the same you know, there's nothing to worry about any more man, its all good. My brother's pretty anti drugs, needless to say he did not get it at all

It takes all the fun out of it. Rarely even bother getting high now because this is it all its become & I think that's why I lost a lot of friends as well. Kind of reminds me of drug addicts, at first its fun and games then when you get into a cycle of doing it aimlessy it starts to become a bit much. Might have to set aside a day next week to getting really high and just going out somewhere on the underground and seeing what happens.

  I remember moments like these, strange philosophical musings that you could never think of sober. I used to read my texts to people the day after, half of what I would be talking to people wouldn't make sense then the other half would be random bits of advice that they probably wouldn't take into consideration but could be kind of useful if they read into it.

These songs make me think of listening to the radio in the car as a kid.
