What a load of hype! Nothing on New Forms! How ever much I enjoy hearing some of these tracks out on a dance floor, there is no question that this is Skream and co's way of making a bit of cash (quite rightly) out of a game they pretty much invented. It anything, it sounds very smoothed out, even the bass seems to have a bit of extra chorus on it so as not to offend. If you want a contender for the Mercury - get Outside the Box..

thats the thing with the mercury music prize, its not about whats truely 'cutting edge'. its about taking the new sound and waiting till something that will be commercially sucessful comes along.
look at how many times dizzee rascal's been nominated, his music is hardly 'outside the box' is it? yet every album gets a nomination.
also new forms was a good album, really good, but it was hardly avante guarde drum n bass, not seen any photek or squarepusher popping up in the nominations back when they were pushing the sound.

still, looking forward to actually hearing this album. what with all the hype needs to be done.

I'm not sure I agree totally, I remember Burial being nominated for untrue, wasn't that relatively cutting edge? And as for new forms whilst you're right, it didn't experiment in production in the same way as photek/squarepusher but it was (to my knowledge) the first truely live interpretation of DnB. The more I listen to Magnetic Man, the more I am disappointed. in 5 years, I doubt people will remember I need air in the same way that they remember brown paper bag... I really hope if there is a dubstep nomination next year, they pick something more interesting...

Magnetic Man could get a nomination, but it wouldn't be my choice. It's decent enough pop but pretty far from the quality of its producers best work.

You never know with the Mercury though. Let's not forget that Timeless, Maxinquaye and Jilted Generation never won the Mercury, and M-People did!
