Super Noob...HALPPP

Post by gnarhesh-_- » Mon Sep 27, 2010 1:21 am

Ok, Ive tried FL, ableton, renoise, reason, and logic. I have no idea what im doing on any of them. Its been like 1 month now and im constantly watching tutorials and reading stuff and I cant figure anything out. Ive only really tried to figure out ableton but I have tons of questions and all the answers dont help. I guess what im saying is somebody who produces on ableton. HEELLPPP. also ive read the prod. bible and am confused about that. Heres some of my questions. Whats a soundcard whats it for, how do i use it, whats it do... on ableton how do i get here Image and if you say command-k or command-m it does NOT work. I dont know if its because I dont have a midi controller but what do i know -_-
heellppppppppp. also weird question, does anyone know what kryptic minds uses to produce? or what the best program is to make stuff like his.

for what i know in ableton are audio and midi tracks , midi tracks is where you put softsynth and that
audio is where you put samples
you know what a sample is? , if not , is a piece of audio , it could be a drum loop , a bassline , some vocals , etc .
midi is different , is just a way to create melodies to put it simple , you create your own melodies and stuff .
i hope that helps
but try to be patient , read the manual or better watch some tutorial in youtube , basic tutorials maybe

listen... a soundcard is something that your computers CPU talks to and then outputs your signal to speakers.. a very useful item to have if you are into sound design (which you are)

midi track... is like an audio track.. in an audio track, sound files like.wav .mp3 files can be played and arranged.
a midi track allows MIDI data to be played and arranged.. midi is a language that your DAW uses to control notes synthesizers and samplers play. in other words, a midi track is like a written score..

and if that doesn't make any sense to you.. learn some music theory :e:

If i were you I'd get a book like the midi manual and start memorizing key terms. Until then every answer you try to figure out is just gonna look like Chinese characters. Stick with one DAW and just keep making beats, and don't confuse yourself with things that should be arbitrary at this point, like hot keys or what kryptic minds uses.

No problem. That series is actually 10 parts. The first 2 are free and you can get the rest on his website. www.tomcosm.com

They really helped me out when I was starting out. (not too long ago)
