Not to be a tnuc - by try wording the search a few ways & if the word vinyl is in it dont expect results on the 1st page.

anyway, re vinyl;

sorry. didn't mean to be a prick. it's just that lately we've been battered to pieces with threads about mp3/serato/vinyl vs serato/cost of vinyl...etc. search for "serato" and "cdj".

Serato is gaining in popularity because vinyl is popular.
It's not meant to replace vinyl - it's meant to suppliment it.
Note numark is producing hybrid tables. That's because vinyl is not dead. But everyone is a producer these days, so we gotta supliment it with a way to play dubs too.

People will use wotever they lay thyr hands on. End of. If yr spinning loadsa rare groove ur gonna do tables if ur playin loads of new shit n not rich you'll do cdjs or a lappy. If you got the choice you'll go serato or 10"s.

By whatever means....

vinyl sales aren't exactly a fantastic source of income for dubstep producers. money is made from bookings.

I could drop $350 on the m-audio thing or $750 on final scratch. But what do I have to show for it? A hard drive full of mp3's? I love looking at all my records and, flipping trough them. It's well costly here in the states. But, if I want the track I'll pay $5 for it, sometimes even more. If you want to be a DJ you have to think about the investment. It's one thing to beat match and mix but, If your willing to throw down the cash for the sound, it's something else. I use mp3's when I have to, because I can not pay $200 for DMZ 001, 002 and, some of the earlier Tempa stuff. But, I have no problem dropping 20 to 50 bucks on ebay for a plate.

mate you're looking at it the wrong way - it's fuckin hard to make any money out of selling vinyl, especially when you're talking dubstep where most releases don't sell more than 500 copies. Producers make their money by DJing, which is why nowadays every producer takes up DJing as well.

Frankly if the entire scene went CD/MP3 only, the profit margin would be higher so labels could in theory make more money - the only question then is would enough people buy the tunes rather than pirating them??

I haven't got any figures but I reckon most of the bigger dubstep labels on bleep.com prob sell quite a few mp3s.
