random daily observations thread

Post by misk » Thu Mar 08, 2007 10:18 pm

I think that police sirens oscillate the way they do is so that they sound the same coming or going, instead of someone being able to tell where they are due to the doppler effect. its probably not true tho  .

who's next?

Word. I lose my mind when I see jokers with their windshield wipers on the highest speed when it's barely sprinkling outside. A few times, when I was in a bad mood, I almost got out of my ride and confronted them.

The car wash behind my house has been much quieter since they changed ownership and hired an all Mexican staff.

my printer doesn't need a voice to tell me that printing has started or finished, the clicks and buzzes do that just fine.

Actually I believe it is. And the phase of the siren's horns are aligned so they align right in front of the car a little bit in front of it, so they can "blast" a car right in front of them.

But yep, they are configured to be loud and hard to locate.

I used to live next to a police station in the midwest. They were happy to explain their gear. Not so inclined to explain why they only arrested and beat up poor black people.

It's fucked up down in there.

So here's my random observation for the day: Bringing a sampler and a PA to the drum circle in golden gate park would be awesome.

are they really? There's been quite a lot of research into making it easier to tell what direction emergency vehicles are coming from - to make it easier for traffic to get out of the way so they can reach fires/accidents quicker.

We've got some ambulances & fire engines in the UK which let off bursts of white noise in between siren blasts - white noise is much more directional, you'd be surprised how much difference it makes.

I'm in an exceptionally bad mood. So bad in fact, that making any random observations today is going to be nearly impossible.
