Post by sub-tropical » Fri Oct 08, 2010 9:13 am

Hi guys im new on here ive been into dubstep since 2003 and ive got a little piont to put across. Now i know this new kind of dubstep is allright no argument there but what happend to the old style stuff the stuff that got me hooked on that deep, dark, rolling basslines and drums that belong on a space ship a thousand lightyears away?now i know a lot of you will take that the wrong way but you just rewind youself to 2004-2006 take a listen back and you tell me that im wrong i know its personal opinion but mines in 2004

most people agree with you here and there are producers who are still pushing this sound if you were wondering.
but this thread has been done to death.

The only way to be sure of making it good is do it yourself, internet-forum commentators don't do a lot but where you put the effort in does

Bass music as a whole (125-140 stuff) is better now than it ever was. If you can't see that, you're an idiot. There's so much good stuff coming out every week. You just have to dig a little deeper than what gets uploaded to youtube under the tag 'NEW DUBSTEP 2010 EXTREME FILTH'
The evolution of house, garage and other 125-135 stuff is really just incredible right now, and there's a whole slew of innovative stuff still coming out at ~140.

I know what your saying but i dont think anything went wrong, the sounds just evolved, the same way as jungle evolved into the drum and bass. I for one would love people to still be making beats like old mystiks, loefah, D1, skream etc from 04-05 and its a shame that tribal percussive dark sound has been somewhat lost. But as someones already said, if your not happy with it, try and revive the sound yourself.

And in the mean time:

But Brightons dubstep scene was built on cans of K and wraps of K was it not?! At least thats the vibe I get from an emcee mate of mine who lives down there.

what a lot of people don't seem to realise is music evolves ffs

if all dubstep sounded exactly like it did 6 years ago then how fucking boring would that be? 6 years of more or less the same stuff? that's why music evolves

old skool hardcore didn't last forever, it split into jungle and happy hardcore. jungle didn't last forever and garage went as far as it could go before people started doing other stuff with it

this attitude that people have that dubstep is not allowed to change at all is fucking stupid
