somehow i don't think this will lead to much

the days of jonas salk are over. medicine is no longer done for the good of people, it's all business.

it's pretty cool actually, now they can work on building drugs that identify the DNA tag sequence that could either remove the protein sequence responsible for a cell to turn cancerous or simply modify it so it becomes dormant "junk data".
I expect a hell of a lot of major genetic diseases will start to be eradicated in our lifetimes, theres some amazing work going on this field.

2-3 months seems a bit optimistic. It'll take 2-3 years just for the major pharma companies to sort out legal wranglings.

For the greater good of man, a cure would be hugely detrimental.

Seeing as overpopulation is arguably humanities largest problem, curing the main cause of death worldwide (not certain of that, sure I heard it though), would have a slight adverse effect on that.

overpopulation and poverty is a serious problem as is, disease is one of natures checks and balances, the more healthy long lives are being lived, the more babies are being born etc
be nice if they did find a cure though

take a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_co ... population

i'd say the summary is more a general population boost with longevity of the populace increasing resulting in a decline of resources available which ends up further increasing the split between the have and have not
disease (be it cancer or any other mortal ones) is one of those checks and balances that keeps getting phased out.

i never said it's a bad thing christ
i was expanding on what wubstep said

and of all people to post this, alien pimp... you'd figure he'd realize there is too much profits at stake in corporations and drug companies to see a cure come out.

i could argue that the problem with the world is short-sightedness and not overpopulation. i could argue that people living longer more prosperous lives would lead to better leaders who have true wisdom and superior guidance.
